I've been lucky enough to acquire several of Tim's creations.




So a while back when he made it known that he would be making some knives, and exhibited some patterns, I told him that the 5" skinner was for me. I liked the buffalo horn scales on the 52100 "Buffalo Skinner" and asked if he would do one with that material. I find that when it gets wet, whether with blood or gore, it becomes tacky and the grip is excellent for the type of skinning I do.






It was a couple weeks after Tim sent the knife before I had the opportunity to use it on my favorite test medium....... hoglets.

A bud an I went to the Petting Zoo on a Wednesday to fill feeders and set traps and snares.

I shot a boar Wednesday eve, but he did not drop at the shot and ran into the scrum. I looked for blood at the point of impact, but saw none, so being as it was close to dark-thirty, I did not try to track.

However, Thursday morning I nailed this boar.....




I had walked in and did not have my 4-wheeler so I left him where he dropped.

My bud picked me up and we ran the pens and traps. No joy.

I had Bill take me back to camp to get my ATV and I came back and dragged him up to a shady spot to open him up and take the loins...........



The skinner did a fine job on cutting thru the hide.



And pulling out the back straps. I mentioned to Tim on the phone, I don’t usually push with a skinning knife, but I thought I’d try cutting the hide and fat along the backbone pushing. It cut with ease.

Friday morning we caught a pretty good boar in one of our box traps.



I dispatched the critter and as he had pretty good tushes, I decided to take the head to do a European

I'd already started when I thought, what the hey.......

Yeah Tim does great work. Got about half dozen of his blades and the latest two are a drop point and bird and trout made from CPM M4 and I can't wait till fall to try them on deer.

Anywho, brought this guy back and used the Olt Skinner a 3rd time.........










BTW, after three sessions, it was no longer shaving sharp, but that is to be expected.

I touched it up with a strop and its ready to go again!

Very well done! With that m4, that one's going to be a winner when you have a pile of critters to work on. I really like the scales. What kind of buffalo were the scales from?

I can't recall what Tim said they were. I have the same scales on a Loveless style Drop point he made for me years ago to match a FA 97 .44 Spl with black Micarta grips that I had. The pistol is gone, but that knife will ALWAYS stay!

May just have to ask Tim to make one of these for me to "match" the other one!

Mannlicher let me grope a couple of his camel bone scaled skinners from Tim yesterday on our monthly get-together.

Exquisite.

Very similar to G_Dub's.

The buff horn is from Asian or African buffalos.
When I get a chance to get some with the white streaks I grab them up.
As GW mentioned, it gets tacky with moisture or blood---- instead of slippery.

The black outer sheath of American bison is not easy to use as it is so thin.
Water buffalo have basically solid horns.
