needs to be fairly large easy to manipulate in the cold with gloves.
relatively easy to sharpen but toughness more important than being razor sharp.

being honest will see occasional duty as a splitting wedge and light prybar so sturdy lock and heavy blade a must
have been using an older Cold Steel Tanto Voyager for a year and it has served very well, may buy another just wondering if theres a better option ?

Zero Tolerance probably has something in their lineup that would work.

This exactly! I work in the oilfield and I carry a ZT Hinderer 0566... very sturdy... holds an edge well and has assisted opening...

I’ve been using a CRKT Pilar. It’s been quite handy.

Been carrying a Case for 42 years on my warehouse job. I cut cut boxes, tape, rope, slings, whittle, scrape labels, etc. my current Case is a Russlock & is 100% dependable.

Pick a blade shape and 440c or 420 will more or less do what you as cheaply. Lots of them available from the old Buck 110s. If you have to have better steel, M4 is some pretty tough stuff even full hard at 63-64, but I have no idea who makes folders out of it and I would go with a heavy one just because at that kind of hardness.

try a benchmade 581. m390 steel. you won't be disappointed.

Cold Steel Voyager, the one with the Bowie blade.

I'll toss a recommendation out for the Cold Steel Recon as well. Probably the epitome of a tough, large folder. And I believe they are currently making these with S35VN steel.

Best folder I have found to manipulate while wearing gloves is the Spyderco PM2 or another similar design with the large thumb hole. IME, gloves and small thumbstuds don't mix well.

Another "This exactly" here. Toughness in a folder is all about the lock...and framelock is where it's at...

To add: I have several Hinderer's...and the ZT version matches in every way.

Your use as an occasional prybar would have me avoiding anything with a very hard blade.

I have carried Buck, SOG, Benchmade, Spyderco, and Kershaw.

The Kershaws wore out in a couple months. The other ones lasted. The Kershaws were 20 years ago. If they had not fixed that, they would not still be around.
The reason I am carrying SOG again, is I sometimes see and employee from the Lynnwood factory. He says the #1 knife that employees carry is SOG [duh] and the #2 is Spyderco.
