I'm considering loading the subject bullet in my wife's .260 in order to reduce recoil and was wondering if any of you had experience with it on whitetails. Thanks!

I wouldn't have any trouble using the 100 Ballistic Tip; see the thread "A double." The Partition would give more penetration and PERHAPS a little longer tracking because the internal expansion might not be as dramatic. I have also shot deer with the 95(?) gr Partition out of 6mm Remington and the performance was perfect. So I am all for reducing the recoil by going with the 100 gr. bullets.

Stay with the 120-gr bullet and a soft load of 35-gr of H-4895.

DoeSlayer, never used the 100gr. on Deer, just Antelope . I have used the Hornady 129gr. for the Deer and that bullet work's good. Do you have A good recoil pad on your wife's gun, and is the stock fitting her the way it should, just A thought. Some times that can make A differance in felt recoil. shooting A 120gr. in your 260 Rem. should feel like A 250 Sav. or A 257 Roberts shouldn't be bad.

Here's the whole story...My wife's favorite gun is her .270 Remington Mountain Rifle. In the past, I've loaded 130 grain bullets down to about 2,800 fps for her and everything was fine. For some reason now, she says that its too much for her. I have a NULA chambered in .260 and was thinking a 100 gr Partition at about 2,700 fps would cut down on the recoil and still work well on whitetail. Where she'll be hunting, she'll have a max shot of about 25 yds. I'm a little leary of that 100 grain bullet and was thinking a 120 at about 2,500 fps might be a better choice.

the 100 gr partition was made FOR the 260 rem for shooting deer. Should work OK.

I've used the 100g Partition on one deer and it worked fine. I loaded it in my 260 AI with 49g or 50g of H-4350 (can't remember the exact load offhand) and the velocity was 3,340 fps from a 24" barrel. Shot a young buck low in the chest through the heart at about 40 yds with this load and it left a quarter size exit hole. The buck ran about 70 yds before piling up but he was bleeding really bad out both sides. Nothing wrong with that.

At 2,500 fps I would give the 100g Nosler BT a serious look. I loaded up a reduced recoil load for my daughter this year using 24.0g of SR-4759 and the 100g Nosler BT. I chronoed it at 2,475 fps. We didn't get a chance at a shot in the youth hunt a little over a week ago so can't report on performance but I expect no problems. Maybe I can try that load out this later this week.

Have taken a whitetail and a mulie so far this year with this exact combination.....

Exited both deer with heavy blood loss.....one deer went 20 yards the other 40 yards and were stone dead...both exits were 3/4" in diameter and small entrance...tissue damage was substantial....

The bullet directly hit the shoulder on the mule deer at 300 yards and I had 2 exits (see picture).....
The WTD was a direct behind the shoulder shot and no bone was hit with a clean exit hole....

Another bullet that many will disgaree with me on is the 100 grain Sierra HP...I used this for a while and I didn't have one deer leave its tracks.....

So far ithe 100 NP is an ideal round for deer but I will continue to test.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I haven't tried them yet but I bought some of the 6.5 100g partitions just for the same reason. I will load some to build a milder recoil load for my young boys. The .260 recoil is pretty mild anyway and I think the 100g partitions will be very easy shooting and perform very well. But like I say no deer on the ground with them yet. Plateau Hunter

I use a 100 BT in my 260, it is like lighting hit the deer.

Today I worked up a few loads with various powders and have settled on 39 grs of Reloder 15. Velocity from my 22" barrel averages 2,850 fps and sub-MOA accuracy with 3-shot groups. It's a little faster than I wanted, but the velocity is there if she needs to take a longer shot. It's a lot lighter recoiling than the 125 gr Partition loads and my scientific "plastic milk jugs full of water" testing shows more than enough penetration and expansion with the subject bullet.

Lost a good buck two weeks ago shooting the partions, While these are the go to bullet for heavy animals, I think Ill stick with the Bullistic tip on whitetaile's{Shotover 50+ without loosen one}The lost deer was shot at 30yds {3300Fps}Only found 4 quarter size spots of blood,Just my finding your may very, But on the defence shot a big bear 400+ at the same distance, Broke both sholder, bear never move out of it tracks.

Doeslayer: I have had a 260 Rem now for 5 yrs. and the 100 gr. Nos BT is a very good bullet for Whitetail deer here in Texas, I have also used the 95 gr Hornady VMax both bullets are very good and will certainly take care of any Whitetail Deer or Wild Hogs that You hit right. good Luck
