In a blatant disregard for regulations and ethics, a Kansas man has been sentenced and fined for his now-infamous poaching spree.

A multi-year investigation by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism led by Game Wardens Jason Harrold, Scott Stoughton, and K9 Officer Gypsy has resulted in serious criminal charges. This brings to conclusion a story that's sure to be one of the biggest poaching cases ever in the state.

John Blick, Jr. of Sharon, Kansas was found guilty of the illegal hunting and poaching of 60 whitetail and mule deer. On top of that, his prior convictions meant he had a record, and received charges of a felon in possession of a firearm during the poaching of those deer.

The poaching occurred mainly in Barber County, Kansas along the state's southern border.

A total of $310,234.68 in restitution was tallied for the value of the deer killed, and Blick will be required to pay that amount to the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. He'll also have to forfeit his hunting privileges for five years from the date of conviction.

Blick was also charged and pled guilty to 33 misdemeanors in Harper County and was fined an additional $15,000 worth of fines with Restitutions amount ordered of $17,407.04 for three trophy deer that he killed in Harper County in 2019.

The news, as well as photos depicting many of the deer heads and antlers along with the hunting equipment allegedly used in the crimes, was shared in a Facebook post by Kansas DWPT.

Blick received a sentence of 14 months in prison, followed by 12 months of Post-Release Supervision with the Kansas Department of Corrections.

That’s not a hunter. Glad the article references him as a poacher several times.
Sadly, the fines/penalties for such activities are rarely more than an inconvenience or slap on the hands.
Well good for him. Sounds like good solid first degree stuff. Unless he has deep pockets, I doubt they will ever collect, but he'll at least be able to get out in the field in 5 years.
But won’t be with a firearm
For all of that and his jail time is just 14 months?

Betcha he's a democRAT.... they seriously think nothing applies to them, that they are always the exception...
That is down right wrong for this poacher to do this but we have a nation that kills millions of babies every year from abortion and they get no prison time or fines!! I think we need to do some re evaluating of our political laws!
Good. Sorry bastard
They convicted him for killing 60 deer. I wonder how many others he's killed before getting caught? 60 is probably just the tip of the iceberg.
One of the heads looks like it's 30 years old.
The prison sentence was too light and he should never, ever be able to get a hunting license again which would keep him in violation of the law if he chooses to hunt after his prison sentence.

POS...
Tougher sentence then taking Ukrainian bribe money will net you. Depending on who you are I guess.

Amen. Dumb$817$ like this are what give hunting a bad name.
There’s always people that do not comply with regulations. Even just for the sake of not complying. It’s safe to say this person is likely one of those types.
Lots of things backwards and or upside down these days.

+100
No hunting license? He likely didn't bother with those in the 1srt place, so I doubt he'll worry about that little detail. But a Sheriff's lien to collet as much of the $310,000 as possible and some time with a cell-MATE my be real punishment.

Far more then Obama or the Clintons got for high treason.
I think a .22 shell is cheaper than us paying for him to get three hots and a cot with free medical care. I worked for the Missouri prison system for 24 years and probably dont get that much. Certainly not free medical. Be Well, RZ.
Wow, it does seem like a light sentence for all of that, but at least he does have to spend some time in jail and it's not all a suspended sentence like we see a lot of these days
