Please post pictures of your enclosed tower blinds for me. I'm looking for ideas. The winds were doing 30-40 with gusts to 50 today. Too dam windy to hunt IMO but it convinced me I need to put up at least one tower before next year. I can handle the cold, but wind sucks the fun right out of it for me. I really interested in how your platform is attached to the posts. For what it's worth I'd like something at least 12 feet off the ground to the floor and providing 360 degree shooting.
That kind of wind is beyond tuff to deal with. It’s hard to keep anything put together. We hunt around 3000 feet in the NC mountains and get that kind of stuff at times. And from late November till May you can bet on 10 to 20 at any time. Had a 10’ tripod with a rail around the platform with a plywood floor and a 5’ square pop up fastened on top. Didn’t take the blind off soon enough after hunting season and a storm got it. Blew the blind to pieces first then turned the tripod over. Had 3 yard dog screws with ratchet straps to the platform holding it down. Wind pulled two out and straightened the top triangle out on the other. I’ll watch this for suggestions.

I tie mine down with 3/16 stainless cable and turnbuckles

Hurricane came right over the top of this stand, still there. This is the day we’re putting it up.

This has been up in Burnet county for 11 years, needs painting. A metal tower is the only way to go. This one built in 76. Its been on several leases.

Anothe view of stand the Hurricane came close to, over 100 mile an hour winds.

Thanks Hanco. Those all look like welded towers. Has anyone used the steel corner supports with a female sleeve that 4x4 slides into?

Made one like that for son in law, all braces bolt together. I’d recommend have a tower built. It will last you the rest of your life.

I built this one 15 years ago using Elevator Brackets; it has been great and remains one of my favorite stands to hunt. In 2009 we used that stand for a hunt that was featured by Wayne Pearson on the Outdoor Channel.
It's 4' x 8' inside.

Don't use it much. Only on the windy and rainy days. Have used it more for bushwhacking coyotes at night than anything else.

I built a blind with these Ez tower brackets about 8 years ago and would use them again. Not quite as high as what you are wanting but I don’t think the brackets would be the limiting factor on going higher.

Just built out of scrap wood, aside from the 4x4 legs. It's been up for 3 years now... might finally get around to putting a roof on it sooner or later.

We had another one in the same spot for about 8 or 9 seasons, but it finally got knocked over in a storm. This one is anchored a lot better.

I’ve made several over the years.

Square tube metal.

Exterior sheeting ( Masonite ) for the walls.

This one is 10+ yrs old. Just replaced sides about 2 seasons ago.

Spray foam the gaps. Pretty air tight.

Plexiglass windows , pipe insulation around windows.

“Awning” for rainy days.

Nice to turn on buddy heater when it’s cold.

A heater is nice
This is what I've been using for several years. The blind is 4ft.x6ft. and the floor is about 5ft. off the ground. I plan to build another one this summer and it will be 5-6ft.x8ft. Expanding family, grandkids, and need another stand to hunt from.

Thanks. I've killed many deer from it. One of my grandsons shot his first from it. The down side is that I've taken a few non planned naps in it!

I agree, that is impressive.

The traffic cone accentuates it nicely!

Back when i started hunting on the family ranch in Parker county they had 1 tower stand.

It was called the Hilton, others followed and they were all named after hotels.

The highest was the Highest Regency because it was 25 ft to the floor.

It got cut down when it was moved to Dickens county and is around 18 ft to the ground.

One thing about tower blinds is if they have openings cut out to shoot they need to have some glass in them or the wind will still cut thru you.

All of the stand floors are 4x6 and there is enough room for 3 to set as long as they are normal size folks.

We put a 9-12 pitch on the roof to get the extra room.

Those tall stands definitely need glass windows. I use pieces of felt and push pins to keep wind out when I have a window open, also deer can’t see you. Need to paint the SOB, stand is 11 yrs old.

The stand I posted above has sliding plexi glass, 4X8 so plenty of room for 2.
It is 15' above on the high side, 14 above in back.
The bears and squirrels have tried their best to destroy it.
The door is laying on the ground[bear ripped it off] and on one side the treerats has just about removed all of the siding.
Built it for my wife and it still produces on the rare occasion that she hunts.
As soon as the season ends it is getting some repair work done.

This one[below] while not a 'tower' has been producing great lately.
4X6, no windows and I leave the door open when hunting[shot my target 6 through the open doorway]

Looking at a similar project myself.

What are the preferred dimensions for windows?

We have a single tower left. Welded steel. 6 feet. Couple of cables buckles and anchors. I suspect its about 12 feet eye level.

One thing I'll say. In gusty winds good luck shooting real far out of it. No matter how snug our blind moves just enough that 200 is about as far as we feel comfortable.

When its no wind I shoot a rock just over 1000 yards some mornings before leaving for fun.

I've always chuckled about putting stuff in the windows so the deer can't see you. You do have to be a bit careful at times, but we have never used anything. And I don't recall being busted. I was busted the other evening at 5 feet sitting on the ground trying to get a doe with the 9mm, but she stepped out and I couldn't move.. LMAO.

I was looking for an open tower. I've got places where I can go if I want to coop myself up with walls, but this 2018 project is meant to be out in the elements. It was also big enough that I could take #1 granddaughter along.

Here a few of mine, and a buck my dad took from it this year.

Made it for the youth hunters and seniors at our camp. Sits on 13 acres on a powerline edge with farm fields to the north that we have permission on. It's a decent spot. Especially for doe in the early PA youth season.

I've never even hunted out of this, I prefer to be still hunting mostly. But it's been good for the kids.

Probably just coincidental, but did someone that worked for (then Lone Star Gas now Atmos) build that? Reason I ask is we had four of these type towers, almost identical to yours, on our place in Palo Pinto County. It was about that same 1976 timeframe when we put them up. Don't have the towers anymore but may have some old pictures I can dig out.

Here's my current all steel blind, going 7' x 7' next year and slightly taller. Current blind is about 8' off the ground, new one will be 10' off the ground.

I will build the new one in place and bring this one home to use at the farm.

Anyone have the plans / wood needed for either a 4’x4’ or 5’x5’ enclosed stand ? Plan to build one this off season .
It's just as cheap to build a 6x6 or 7x7.

Get you a chair and a few 2x4s and layout the size you want, and you'll see bigger is better.

On the wood replacement blind we have built, we make them 4'x6' and prefab them. The 4'x 6' is large enough for two people to sit in. We take the base, four walls and a roof and lag bolt them together on the metal frame.

If only needing a view on three sides, I like a 4x8 or 5x10. Point a skinny end toward the center of your viewing area. If you hunt by yourself, sit in that front end, as you can easily reach either side and also shoot out the front window. If others hunt, they can sit behind you and cover the sides.

I don’t know that I agree with that. Current blind is 4x6. I sometimes wish I had a little more room in the 4’ direction but almost always wish it was shorter in the long direction. My next one will likely be 5x5.

I built the last two 5’4” by 4’. I like to see all 4 directions without moving
