11/20/21
6.5 CM.
301 yds.
143 eld-x Factory.
Saw him at 75 yds. Sat. morning.
We both rounded gentle corners on an old skid road.
I tried to slowly chamber, but he turned and trotted away.
I thought, that is the biggest Idaho Whitetail I have ever seen on the hoof & now he's gone...
but he wasn't sure what I was and was not spooked.
I actually had him in my scope but I wasn't going to sling chance lead through the trees as he departed.
Studied the far side on the canyon to see if he was going to come out of the creek bottom....no joy.
Walked up and down my side of the canyon hoping for a miracle sighting. No.
Decided to gain some elevation and sit in the area. Spotted 3 does bedded across the canyon.
Couple hours later, lo & behold a see him across working toward the general area the does were in.
He was just walking, nose to ground. I ranged him (even though I already knew the approx. yardage)
glanced at the dope chart and rested on a stump. I shot and he fell over.
Side story. I shot a nice 5 point a few years ago within 200 yds. of this buck. He hit the ground so fast
I thought my .270 was everything Jack always told me it was as a boy. Alot more to the story but I ended up finding that buck 5 days later.
At least I had horn, so it wasn't completely tag soup.
That was not going to happen with this buck.
His front legs started pawing...
I shot again. Actually thought I had missed, but I had near shot his left front leg off...was hanging by the skin.
He moved some more, whack. He quit moving.
Then I sat there for 15 or so.
Then I headed out back to camp for the cart.
Buck of a lifetime, for me.
Holy smokes – what a buck!
Congrats!
Thanks, 'slave. Glad you posted him up for all to see, since ya don't come around much anymore. That's a hella good buck, my friend.....

Great Buck….well done!!!!
Buck dreams are made of!!! Way to go
Will be hard to ever top that toad.
Congrats on the buck of a lifetime
beautiful deer and great story... curious why you would not have a round chambered.
Short version is
I have not shot at a “jumped” whitetail for a lot of years,
Since I was young.
My normal method now is …hunt the rut,
Sit and glass,
Bino bucks for rack size for “shooters”.
Has served me well over the years.
Elk is my primary freezer meat & I try to find trophy bucks or nothing.
That said,
I did not bino this buck. Ever.
From first sighting, I was shooting.
2nd sighting at 300 yds……no binos came up.
That has never happened to me,
but this was a one of a kind deer, for me.
And a very nice surprise.
If I hunted dark, heavy timber, my strategy might be different.
Thanks for looking.
wageslave;
Good evening to you sir, I trust all is well with you.
Thanks for sharing the photos of that grand buck with us, he truly has it all. Congratulations for sure.
I love the palmation, the splits and the kickers, a real character rack and a big body to boot.

Good evening.
I am great. My girls are “in house” for the holiday and I am happy, warm & blessed.
I feel very fortunate to have encountered a wonderful specimen and be lucky enough to achieve the goal of a great buck & worthy effort. Of course, there is a heathy dose of luck I needed also.
Anyway, have a great holiday season & thanks for the kinds words.
Merry Christmas to all, even the French Canadians…..
Kidding. (Inside joke with Paul)
Magnificent buck! Congratulations!
Ron

He’s a horndog……like Ingwe.
Merry Christmas, Scott.
Have a great time with your family.
You are one of my favorite straight people on the fire.
Or not.

Have a great time with your family.

Great buck, from an area I hunted a lot in a former life. Couldn't go to a more deserving loser.
I am not a taxidermy whore either (other than predators)...but I'd consider getting that one on the wall too.
Suck it. I just might be a bit envious.

I was wondering how long it took slave to toss the Penthouse and pull up his britches ? Deer must’ve be waiting what seemed like a lifetime for him to shoot.

I know a guy who (at least he says) shot a mule deer while taking a dump. He even finished wiping before going over to it.
Keep that rifle handy at all times, folks.
Hammer of a buck! Congrats!
Congratulations on an incredible buck! Well done sir!

Dude, I only shít on company time……ever.
OT.? I’m camping in the John.
I am not "company time" and neither is MOM.
You're a weird SOB.
Christmas Eve is complete now that MOM has been brought into it.
Wonder if ‘slaves sister is cooking “the good stuff” tomorrow?
I hope so too.
I'm in luv....
That is a really good deer, buck of a lifetime for most of us. congratulations
Hey, that's a really nice deer. I guess it's safe to say, you had a good day in the deer woods.
Congratulations on a fine critter.
Big congrats on a true monster.
Outstanding whitetail. I've found a massive set of whitetail sheds that would be a buck of a lifetime in Idaho. Also, took some nice whitetails there but I have to admit that I've narrowly avoided hitting a few monsters there early in the morning on the highway via vehicle collision. It seems that I get glimpses of these type of bucks in those nocturnal circumstances. Thankfully I missed them and any car damage. Yours is just truly outstanding.
I hope so too.
I'm in luv….
You are sick.
slave
P.S. bring a pressure washer.
Points are points but what always has impressed me was mass, and that buck had it in spades! Awesome buck and great shooting!
Jeebus, Maria, and Giuseppe!
Dude, I'm not sure I've ever even seen a whitetail alive that has that character and size. Great retelling of the event too.
Taxidermy? My woman says "no dead critters on the walls". We might have a disagreement were I ever lucky enough to get one like that.
PS, better get crackin', only 490 more posts until you, too, are an ORACLE! (somehow I ended up passing you along the way)
