My 2021 buck was ready for pick up this morning. Not a bad Texas hill country buck. We call him β€œDer Alte Mann”.

Nice Buck Bob, where did you find him? Kennedy or Hill Country? Rio7
Good Morning Blue! He was here in Blanco county. Along the creek. This pasture and surrounding neighbors place ( low fence, or no fence) hadn’t been hunted in about 15 years. When I was a kid you never saw anything even close to this here in the area. You’d see spikes and little forkhorns all about the size of a dikdik.
Great buck

Over last five or more years the bucks I see in the Hill Country are so much bigger and better. Hunted my sisters place outside Kerrville and it was rare to see a buck -although axis were abundant and a nice consolation prize. Now I see 'real' bucks worthy of wall mounts. Do you concur?

Congrats on that buck- and the rifle.

Good looking mount.

That deer was carrying the lever action!?!?
shocked

I killed a deer in my jockey shorts once. He was a big 5X5. How he ever got them on was a mystery.

Very beautiful mount, kaywoodie! Envious here...

Thanks again gang!!!! Been looking at a slew of bucks on the game cameras. Have several nice ones, but I doubt I’ll deer hunt much this season since I got a left over cow tag to fill freezer. Hopefully I’ll get lucky!

Old original wall board. Old place was built in 1880’s or 90’s. And was moved to present location in the late 30’s as it was scheduled to be under the then new Lake Travis. Little area known then as Corwin. It was rocked in here with rock cut off the place.

Damn nice, where is your lease again? I can see in Lake Buchanan from mine, I’m close to Burnet.

I overlooked it, Blanco county, butts up to Burnet county to the north.

That’s a very nice tax work, congrats.

No lease Hanco. I live here now on 600 acres. Our north end pasture maybe 60 acres is in Burnet county. From the hill top in back I can see most of the Colorado valley from Lago Vista area all way west past Marble Falls and Fairland toward Kingsland. Barely see the end of Long Mtn.

That’s awesome Bob ! You hit the Lotto Jackpot ? 😜 Quite the little Hill Country Paradise. Any middens or good spots for hunting arrowheads ???
There’s a spot down here on Fall creek. Not really a midden site. Been picked over pretty much. Occasional point and scraper now and then. Dates from a period when things were a bit rough.

Kaywoodie, next buck gets any taller and you'll need to go to a semi sneak position to get him to fit. He's a dandy buck. Congrats.

Yeah, when we picked him up I was a bit worried! 😬😬😬😬. But he fit just right! πŸ™‚

Thanks!!!
I can't see myself ever putting a scope on a Winchester lever action. Maybe a Marlin but I doubt that'll ever happen either. I can't see very good anymore, but I can see that's a dandy buck.
True Grit,

I hear you. I shot this one with regular open sights. But most of my 1895’s sport a Lyman #21 receiver sight. Which makes shooting much nicer. Here is the above buck the morning I got him. I will continue using such sights as long as I can! 😁
