About 8 this morn. Old decrepit boomer in Khakis, stormy kromer, buffalo plaid and old ass wore out Cut down krag rifle!
Reminds me of me . Congratulations.
Good for you!
Its good to see an old Krag still successfully punching tags. I wonder what will happen to all of the old guns when the old guys like us are gone? Most young guys seem to want to be long range hunters, even when they have to go out of their way to find a place open enough to shoot at long range.

I'm hoping they start floating around on the cheap, because prices on all the cool antiques have gone monkey azz crazy π
To OP, very cool rifle and kill. π One of my regrets is passing on a sporterized Krag back when they used to show up in pawn shops cheap once in a while.

Now where do you think they learned that?
Congrats, Nice Buck. Way to go.
Cool rifle but an awesome buck!
Cool rifle ,deer and hat!
Old school, good stuff. πCongrats on a nice buck without all the modern gadgetry.
That makes a couple big ones in a row for you KW! Very good job and nice wardrobe of the latest high tech gear. π
Great rifle and Buck! I still wear red &black plaid with a orange vest.
Thanks Fellas!!! It was a great morning!
Congratulations, is it as big as the one you killed last season?
Congratulations Bob. Awesome. miles

Excellent buck!
I doubt I'll have a shot at one that nice.

Reloads. 220 RN Hornady. I think 44 grains IMR 4064. Have to look.
Congrats!
Bonus style points for the Kromer.
That is cool all the way around. Very nice buck. Gonna take an awful big one killed this yr to top that rascal taken with a iron sighted Krag. At least by my vote. Many congrats, way to go!
A great buck and a nicely composed picture to honor the animal and the hunt!
Congratulations!
That is so cool. I need to get mine sighted in.
Congrats.
That rifle brings back memories. One of my uncles used one back in the β60βs.
Congratulations KW. π
great deer!!!!
i have a 30-40 Krag and it still drops deer too. my great grandfather bought it, then my grandpap had it, then dad (RIP) and late uncle used it and then 2 weeks before he died, my grandpap gave the Krag to me. i shot i think 13 - 14 deer and my oldest son has shot 6 or 7 deer. i luv the Krag!!!

Man there ainβt nothing not cool about this all the way around! Burlap bag full of old school bonus points. π
Congrats!
Nice buck congratulations
Nice buck. Way to get it done "old school". It always amazed me how wide Texas deer look because of their smaller bodies. I thought Jackie Bushman and Bill Jordan killed 24" bucks on every shot.
Youβve always been a snappy dresser! Nice work.
Now get out there and bust one wearing a campaign hat, preferably with a Springfieldβ¦.
Love it, old school cool!

What a great heirloom!!!! Thanks for sharing!! Ive got 3 sporter type Krags and 2 1895βs. When I was employed at the LGS i could cherry pick Krags that came in the shop. If they had good bores they usually went home with me. Down to 3 keepers. The one I used yesterday has a Redfield #70 βno drillβ aperture sight on it.

This was a wide deer for sure. He wasnβt one of the usual suspects Iβd been seeing on game cames around the place. He came off neighboring ranch and was after some does. I busted him on a good trot!
When we were kids here on the place deer like this were just not seen. Lots of sheep & goats overgraized area, and whole area overhunted real bad. There wss one ranch up the creek and 1000βs of acres. Owned by old Normandy 101st airborne vet (old family ranch). Now he had some bucks on that place.
Edit, on different note. Every Christmas Bill Jordan was in the old LDS (early 80βs) where I was employed. He and shop owner went way back.
Your pics are satisfying on many levels: Nice deer, cool rifle, sartorial acumen, scenery, and the right attitude about blending all that. Well played, Bob!
I thought my decision about weaponry for an upcoming hunting trip was settled. Now you have me second guessing myself, and looking at my Krags out of the corner of my eye. Dammit, now I gotta cast some 311284 220 grainers and check zero before midweek. Oh, the life of a rifle loony!

Nice. 220gr RN is the perfect Krag bullet. Imagine that's pretty much a killer on anything.

Bob always draws a good crowd, deservedly.
Great deer Kaywoodie! With a Krag, no less. What a great memory. ππ I thought I posted my congratulations earlier but I must of messed it up. π«€
I would love to get any deer, let alone that great buck, with my Krag but has not happened. Lord knows I have tried.

i have that one and an other Krag (i spent $125 2 years ago) that was rusty.
i did a complete strip down of metal on the Krag and then Evapo Rust the steel overnite. i cleaned it off with rubbing alcohol and i put oxpho blu and a hair dryer (set at extra hot) on the parts and pieces. i put the Krag back together again. it is sitting in my safe because SOMEONE (thats me) to buy a scope mount and D&T it.
i have two 1898 Krag actions without a bolt(s). they are a little bit down on my list, but someday i'll build them.
Nice buck, classic rifle! You know a change of hats and you'd look just like Sherlock Holmes!
Muttonchops, the Kromer, a Krag and some Hornady blue nose 220s..
Excellent.
Bob, that's a fine buck and a first class rifle! Careful or the 1895's will protest.
Congratulations on a nice Hill Country buck, Bob!
Love the Krag !
Iβve got Dadβs all original Carbine I found for him in a pawn shop nearly 30 years ago.
Need to get it out and shoot some hogs with it.
Gotta find some ammo first. π€
Great stuff all the way around. Congrats KW!
Bob, are you taking it after elk this year?
Bob, are you taking it after elk this year?
No, no taking my old Husqvarna 9.3 x 62 I put together. Mauser 30/06 for back up.
Awesome all the way around !
Congrats sir !
That's the way to "Civilize them with a Krag!"
P.S. That's a great buck!
Appreciate your sharing and caring.
k what a nice deer and a really cool rifle to get out in the woods with. Sure looks like the neighborhood is getting back to fine deer cover if your growing bucks like that nearby. Enjoy the rest of the season. Thanks for the pictures . Yours drew out some other very nice examples of the fine work turned out at the Springfield Armory.
