Yesterday morning this buck walked out and stopped at 238 yds. He took a 168 gr. Hornady Amax low in his right shoulder (near the end of the scope in the pic). The bullet came to rest just under the skin low in the opposite shoulder. With both shoulders broken, he managed to cover another 20 to 30 yards. I've enjoyed shooting this combination on the range, working up loads and putting it to work. With due regard for the pressure limitations in Garands, a moderate charge of IMR4895 was pushing the Amax.

Nice! Could you show a close up of house your scope is mounted? What base & rings.........Long eye relief pistol scope. I'd like to scope mine and shoot a deer with it.

It’s the UltiMAK base which has a picatinny rail on top. The base surrounds the barrel just forward of the receiver and replaces the rear hand guard. The rings are some vertical split rings I had in my parts box. The scope is a Burris 2 x 7 pistol scope. This is my first experience with a long eye relief scope and I warmed up to it right away. The UltiMAK website has all the particulars.

Although not related to your inquiry, I should add to this thread that while searching for load data for the Garand, I recalled that the Campfire’s John Barsness had worked up the data a few years ago. He was kind enough to share that information with me.

Pretty slick!

You did the work and reaped the reward. That’s how it should work.

Home made cheekpiece on the stock?

I cobbled that together with a piece of foam covered with black tape for a temporary fix. A friend is looking for the proper piece of leather to do it up right.
