Hello all:

I've drawn a mule deer tag for the first time in Nevada's area 6 (western Elko County). The season is Oct 5-20 and I'm just hoping someone from the campfire has spent some time in that country...I've never even driven through.

I'll try to get up there early to scout, but it will be tough. I work heavy hours during fire season, and that usually goes to near the end of September.

Any input would be appreciated...as much as I love Nevada, a deer tag is getting to be a rare thing to score in this state.

czech1022: I used to live south of 6 and have spent some time poking around most of it. It is a large area with lots of varied country. It has been quite a few years so I can't give any help on specifics, but I would be tempted to look south of 80, guessing it might get less pressure. If scenery was important, I'd head north of 80. Sorry I can't be more help, haven't had a Nevada tag for 20 years and that was for 100. If you don't get some good responses, I'll ask around. dvnv

dvnv: Thanks for the response, but the part of area 6 south of 80 (065) has been dropped this year and is no longer part of the hunt.

However, if you do come across anyone who has a few words of advice, I'd love to hear it, and I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

A friend had success by hunting the washes and creek beds on the flats near fields or meadows in the south end of that area. Some bucks play hide-and-seek there. Otherwise just figure where the quads aren't going to be :-)
Deer are use to seeing trucks year around, but the quads only come out during the hunt season. They know better than to stick around when they see or hear one.
I'll check with my friend to see if he will give info up on his spots.

I didn't find out anything about 6 other than there were some large fires and the deer numbers are down. I like Dino's idea. Sorry not to be more help, dvnv
