The responces to ROACH4047's recent question got me thinking about this knife. Did some looking on the net, of course the original US made ones are getting expensive but what about the new Taylor Chinese made ones? Are they close to the old quality? I've found both a PH1 and a PHW which look very similar except for the handle material, is there a difference I'm not seeing?
BTW, I'm looking for a knife to use not a collector.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
They are very nice knives (USA models). Don't know about the new ones. Can't beat that Bob Loveless design drop point. They are on ebay. Pick out a USA model. I saw a PH1 or 2 recently sell for around $55.00, and it was NIB. Just keep checking.
Son_of_the_Gael,
I can't give a definate answer, but rarely do I see an improvement in quality when any product is switched to being made in China...
If your looking for a really good factory knife for hunting ect, take a look at the Fallkniven F1...It comes in a variety of different handles and the quality is outstanding..They might be a bit more than the Schrade PH, but you won't be dissapointed..

Thanks for your input guys, yes Sako I see there are some US ones on evilbay at pretty rational prices. And yeah Peter, I have no delusions that the Chinese ones would be better, maybe close though? The Fallknivens look interesting, starting at about $100 US, not out of reach for me. Decisions, decisions, decisions.....
I don't have the PH1 but I did purchase 2 other Taylor chinese made knives. They are OK knives but not near the quality of my old schrades.
