I got my drawing results back. I put area 119 as a first choice as a long shot to preserve my points...my Dad and I got drawn.
Now I need to figure where to concentrate our efforts, the type of hunt, and overall start planning. My dad was going to get an outfitter for our second choice that we didn't draw. He's actually a little bummed that we aren't going on the all exclusive hunt on horses in the other area.

I thought I'd reach out to the campfire to see if anyone has hunted this area before or knows of someone that can provide some information. I figure I'd call the Game and Fish but they are probably swarmed with calls.
I hope you have a good hunt. I am trying to decide what to put in for next year 119, 125, or 87.

Everything I have read about the unit says the last three or four days are the days to be there.

Did you have max points?

Its been tough finding any information. I've talked with a couple of outfitters and it sounds like ranch hunts or motel based hunts. Besides the pre-season scouting I am wondering if a guide is a waste of money. I'm not sure about driving around in someones truck for $2500 minimum for 5 days per person.
I got my BLM maps the other day. The high country to the west seems to have a lot of private land locking in access even to the national forest. The east side has a lot of BLM lands although I don't know if this is worse or better to look for a big deer.
I am going to call a bio and the local warden during this week to try and find some guidance.

Dink, I had four points and my Dad had 2 points. I can't believe we got drawn
Trying to keep your points is always a gamble. I usually do the same thing but for an area that if I'm drawn into would be a very good problem. It was usually no trouble to get a Region D tag the second go-round but I don't think it's nearly as a sure thing now, and probably less for the future. I burned points for a Region E tag this year for one place in particular. Next year it's a clean slate.
