Here's a blast from the past, ca. 1981.

The big deer, in 2 pictures by itself and on the right in the picture of both mounts displayed outside, is a 23 point non typical that was harvested illegally on Albert Mead's farm, on Meads Ln near Delmar, NY in November of '81.

An exceptional deer, it weighed over 250 lbs, field dressed. The poacher was arrested and the deer confiscated by NYDEC. It was autopsied 11/11/81 after which the mount was commissioned and today remains in NYDEC possession, currently at the DEC Central Office at 625 Broadway in Albany, NY. It has become known in NY as "The Delmar Buck".

The small deer, on the left in the outside shot and by itself in the "before and after" shot, is a 14 point non typical made from a set of sheds that my dad found on our, nearby, farm.

The guy in the white shirt is a taxidermist named Skip, he did both mounts.

I was told by Skip, who hunted our farm a few times, that NYDEC biologists studied both mounts and determined the shed 14 point antlers were from the 23 pointer. If you look at the patterns of the tines they certainly do appear similar. However I have no more than his word on this and no other corroborating evidence.

I was told that NY Conservationist Magazine did a story on the deer but I have never seen the article and requests to them came up empty handed.

Any of you folks ever see or hear about this deer.
