Chris smoked this super buck on opening evening.

Perfect heart shot. 50 yard death dash.

Life is good...

Split brows is really cool. Big and bladed. The deer is oh so close to 140"...

There was another buck we found that had his right 3's and 4's coming from same point on beam. He almost made the cut...grin...

Understood! Not wanting exact location, but roughly where were you guys?
Posted By: GregW Re: Back from Texas - 10/03/16
Low fence, free range deer from Mason County with my brother Bruce at Hang Em High Whitetails....
Posted By: JGRaider Re: Back from Texas - 10/03/16
That is a heckuva buck anywhere, especially for that area and a no high fences deer.
Posted By: wesheltonj Re: Back from Texas - 10/03/16
That's an excellent deer for a Hill Country deer that's not behind a high fence eating protein year round.

Tell Chris I said congratulations! Dandy Buck. You two are a couple of huntin fools.

Congrats!

Congrats indeed! I'm hunting Menard country, a little further west.

This guy is the best I've seen this year, but one of the ranch hands thinks a car may have got him. Low fence, though I obviously do feed protein.

Nice buck!

Congrats to Chris!

My experience with Bruce, Greg's brother at Hang Em High, was after I took an archery mule deer with Greg in the desert this past January with an over the counter tag. How the hunt played out is amazing, a story of a lifetime (Greg won't let me tell it until we're too old to hunt. Sworn to confidentiality LOL), and Greg had to replay it to Bruce time and time again as he lay in the tent trying to go to sleep. I know Bruce has the same passion and drive as Greg. I've got to lock down a spot with Bruce because I know every hunter will return and they'll be no spots!

Know Menard well -

You should stop by and see Gary at Burnham Brothers downtown if you haven't already.

The acorns and persimmons are really good this year. You'll get better deer in the next month or so...

Thanks Greg - I'll try to visit them the next trip out. Most of the ranch has been sold, so this will be the last year I hunt it. It would be nice to find another lease with good game & potential

Nice deer! This is a serious question not a slam! Do the ranch owners feed these deer with a mineral supplement. I keep seeing pictures from trail cams, with feeders. I've never seen a feeder, and have no idea what is being fed the deer! Having been lucky to always hunt public ground, I never gave much thought to the diet as I can't influence deers diet! Others from the area have commented on the large rack of the deer which spurred these questions.
