We hunt deer quite a bit in Idaho's unit 48, the Wood River Valley. One of my partners has friends with the ID Fish & Game and they're saying that fawn survival in that unit this winter is zero. They had 200% normal snowfall. It's been a bad one.
This won't affect the bigger bucks this year but there won't be any replacements coming up for future years. Normally during the season, every group of does will have at least 1 small buck and a lot of them get shot. Not this year.

May be a good year for you southern Idaho boys to chase Whitetails up north.

I went from salmon to challis, and there are not near the deer of any age class, as there usually is. The fawn mortality is likely over 60%.These deer were not fed and the mortality rate of all age classes is going to be pretty high. Its very unfortunate, and will be a few years getting numbers back.
