See that Hornady is making the 130 grain ELD in .264
Even offering factory ammo in 260 Rem.
Thoughts on using these for deer?

I only see it in 143 for the .264. Dang my slow twist.

I think the ELD-Match will be fine, I fully intend to fling some 147 gr ones into something this year. I do not believe you will have any difficulties!

Maybe they'll do a 129-130 in the 6.5mm ELD-X as well. Would be useful. The new 103gr 6mm ELD-X also looks rather cool for hunters....

I wouldn't have a problem poking one into a deer.

I've shot plenty of deer with a 140gr amax, I see no issues with 10gr less.

How much "better" would this bullet be than the excellent 130 grain AB?

Never know till you shoot it? Could be shooting factory loads and your gun much prefers the hornady? Then I would say it's "better".

Jeff, the 130 AB has been my go to bullet in 6.5mm, as the 129 SP did long ago. I see it as the benchmark. Many might equal it, not sure if they better it at most typical ranges. Flattened a WT at 275 yds from a former K1-A Swede, and they have always been very accurate as well.

That said, I would expect the ELD to do very well, but it may not hold together on harder targets ie bone on closer shots. The Nosler AB will drill both shoulders and exit, and has for me as close as 100 yds in a 260, just like a 95 BT in a 243....that might give one an edge on certain shots. I'd bet the ELD works like an Amax, and the 140 has dumped deer well at LR, but I would stick to lung shots unless testing proved it tougher than my thinking.

The 130 Bergers have a stellar reputation on deer. Hard to pick a bad 6.5 bullet, esp. if you stay at 100 gr and above, in any non-FMJ bullet that will readily expand on game.

In 6.5mm bore rifles I have, mostly, shot deer with 100 grain Partitions, 120 grain BTs, 129 grain Hornadys, and 130 grain ABs. I shot some hogs with 140 grain Partitions, but decided that I liked the additional 400 fps of MV with the 100 grain Partition for shooting whitetails.

Last Fall I shot a couple of deer with Hornady's 129 grain American Whitetail 6.5 Creedmoor factory loads and was pleased with the results. Too bad Remington screwed up the 260 as badly as they did.

Back to my original question, what advantage does this new bullet have over the 130 grain AB?

Well, the Hornady factory load is $26/box. Can find factory Nosler loads with the 130 AB for around $40.

So, about $14 better per box...

OK. I don't shoot all that much center-fire factory ammo and I was actually thinking in terms of the bullet as a projectile, not as a cartridge.

Personally unless the ELD proves as tough as the AB, one box of ammo might get you thru an entire season for hunting loads, with a few to zero POI/POA.

I would happily use the ELD for range work, and likely do very well on yotes. It's hard to not want to use a bullet that is accurate, expands, and penetrates well at most sane distances I feel the ELD may not hold up as well, especially at higher impact speeds. If you shoot behind the shoulder broadside shots, then it's all moot.

It's nice having a bullet in chamber that will be effective from any angle, close and far. Just my preference. Some prefer exits.

Jeff, since you like the PT, have you tried the 100 TTSX? I may try them in my 47 in the future, where I know in advance shots will not be extreme distances.

The 100 BT was a bughole accurate bullet in a friends MOA Carbine in 6.5BR.....less BC for sure, but I would use them to 200-300 yds.

Yeah, the 130 grain Nosler A/B is a good bullet. It's not going to come apart.
