I normally load my own ammo but have not had alot of time to work on my son's rifle.
I was in the local Walmart and they had the 150gr Power Points for $13.96 a box so I picked up a box
to see how they would shoot. I've never bought these before but recall being told they were quite soft and made big holes in stuff. What's your experience with these?
I wanted some 130gr but they were $4 a box more... worst case senerio my son gets more trigger time.

I've only used that same bullet on an animal once. I don't know if this was the fault of the bullet or just the luck of the draw. A buck was quartering toward me at about 100 yds. I shot him in the point of the shoulder but the bullet didn't penetrate there. It slid under the hide across the shoulder and the full length of the rib cage before it entered behind the last rib. It hit something vital and he went down after running about 200 yds.

I have a good friend with a 270 who bought some of the Wins, thinking that they would be comparable to the Federal 150gr load. He uses the rifle for deer and elk. They shot fine, but after a mess on a buck, he went out and bought more Federals and saved them for practice. He didn't elaborate on the mess, just to say he wouldn't use them on elk. I'm guessing they are pretty soft. I always thought they were very soft in the smaller cals I used them in for deer when I was younger. They worked, and shot very well, but I never saw an exit on the broadside ribs shots I always used as a teen.

Not a 270win but in the 270wsm 150gr. Power Point traveling 3200fps, was explosive under 300yds. if bone is hit. Had a 4-point mule deer quartering to me at 85yds. I didn't tuck it in enough in front of shoulder. Sounded like like a grenade went off on impact. 4" hole with no exit. Scrap metaled the lungs and heart.

I had good luck from them on at least 15 animals out of a 270WSM. No problems for me. I would not hesitate to use them again. All my shots were 250 yards or less. Most 100 yards or less. For me they performed just about like the 150 Horn IL that I load now.
