Just wondering what others have experienced with this round particularly 270 win
If the bullet exits, the blood trail is much like any other similar bullet that hits in the same part of the animal. If the bullet doesn't exit, then the blood trail is dependent on how high on the animal the entry is. Same as any other bullet.

I've taken deer with this bullet using factory loads in the 223, 260, 7mm/08, 308, and 30/06. I've used the bullets in reloads for 6mm Rem, 30/30, 30 Rem, and 300 Savage. My stepsons have used the 270 version with success but they hunt with their father and I have no first hand observation. I highly doubt there is any significant difference in what I have seen.
Only one experience with the fusion. It was a 150 7mmRM on a large bodied buck that was so close I was worried he would hear me breathing. He dropped at the shot, then using his front legs and dragging his rear legs he crawled about five feet and died before I could shoot him again. It was a pass thru the shoulder with lots of blood.
I would expect similar from a .270.
I noticed at academy they now have the federal Buckmasters bonded that there claiming is a new bullet .. I call bs.. it is the fusion just in a fancy box for 2 bucks more the velocity and energy and everything are identical but all they did was rebox it .. just like federal powershoks are called non topicals at academy and Core-Lokts are called whitetail pro at bass pro they slap a deer on a box and up charge for the same [bleep] 😂
Federal fusion is my go to ammo of choice....of my 8 bolt guns only one seems to not like FF. The rest all shoot FF accurately and it does a very nice job putting deer in the freezer. It's also easy on the bank.
Yes sir I agree thank y’all for feed back

I have shot 4-5 deer with a fusion and none of them took a step. I do not know about a blood trail.

I have recovered 1 bullet shot lengthwise on a buck and it’s a perfect mushroom.

Mine too when using factory. I start there and usually don’t need to look further.

Used them in one of my 243's and in both of my 25-06's. Never had to track a deer further than about 10'. Exit wounds on these smallish hill country bucks are about the size of a quarter - 50 cent piece at 100.
Took a nice doe 4 yrs ago with my 280 rem. Hit her high and hit the spine, obviously it was over instantly. The 140 gr bullet did break up pretty bad but kinda to be expected. I just resighted the rifle today using my like new VX3 2.5-8x36 I traded for recently...The last two out of 9 shots at 100 yds are basically in the same hole...needless to say I find my Rem 700 mtn rifle loves Fusion ammo.

The elks and deers I've shot with fusions didn't leave a blood trail, cause they've died right there...
Best factory ammo Ive used.... Very accurate....drops em right there right now....
I honestly believe based upon years of personal experience that there is no magic bullet and no bullet that truly offers substation, even minimal advantage of giving you a blood trail.

I believe each deer and each shot placement is different from the next. As long as the bullet exits, I don't believe one bullet will be better than the next at producing a blood trail. It is a coin toss.

Shoot the same bullet at 50 deer and your see how vastly different blood trails are even with similar hits.
As hunters we often tend to overthink and over predict based upon what we like to use. That goes for brands, cartridges, bullets etc.

Keep things simple and enjoy whatever you like to use. You'll kill deer as good as the next guy and you don't have to lose sleep wondering if you made the right choice.

I've shot exactly 1 deer with Federal Fusion ammunition - a little buck with a .308 165grain bullet. The blood trail looks to be, oh, I dunno, maybe 4"? DRT. laugh

I've shot one muley with a FF in .270, at 325 yards. He dropped instantly to a double lung shot, and the Fusion was a pass through.
