My home state of Ohio has funky rules pertaining to guns allowed for deer hunting. Straight walled cartridge rifles are now allowed. I have several to choose from (Marlin 1895 45-70, Marlin 1894 .44 magnum, and a Ruger .44 magnum carbine).I'm kicking around the idea of purchasing a 350 legend upper for my AR-15 carbine. About half the price of a new Ruger Ranch Rifle. I love tinkering and shooting new stuff. Any thought or input?

Its basically a 357 max. Which means great ballistics.

Get one and go forth and shoot something.

It looks good in person.

There's nothing in this list that the 350 Legend will do better-- except fit on an AR platform, but then you probably already knew that.

Go forth and make venison!

Thanks for the responses. Probably won't have time to get one ready for this season. It will give me something to toy around with all summer. Gun season is only a month out and I have two bow hunting trips left. Leaving today for 6 days.

and likely it will shoot twice as good as any mini 14 ever dreamed of shooting.

Brown Santa delivered my 350 Legend upper from Bear Creek Arsenal this week. Mounted a Leupold VX-1 that I already had on it via a cantilever mount. Looks pretty sweet. I'd post a picture but Photoshop says I'm over on storage. Shot it at 25 yds. at the indoor range today. Recoil is negligible. Going to shoot it at 50 and 100 yds. next week. With my scope height of 2.75 inches, 1.25 inches low at 25 yds. should put me on at 100 yds. So far so good!

Rifle and 25 yard group. Scope is 2.75" above the bore axis. 1.25" low at 25 should put me dead on at 100. We'll see next week.

Took the 350 to my gun club range yesterday. Had the range all to myself which was nice. I think if Bambi shows himself he may be in trouble. The 180 grain Power Point was more accurate on average than the 150 grain Deer Season XP.

Sorry for all the dumb posts guys! Pretty stoked about my new toy. Bear Creek Arsenal 16" upper on my Stag Arms lower. Leupold VX-1 3-9 scope. Still has the crappy mil spec battle trigger though.

I have the same upper as you. The jury's still out on mine. The first time I shot it the cheap 155 gr WW FMJ ammo functioned fine but Hornady 170 gr Whitetail ammo wouldn't feed well and pierced the primers. Also the rims of all the fired cases had a burr around them caused IMO by a step on the bolt face. To BCAs credit, when I contacted them about it they had me send it back and it was returned to me within a week, all at their expense. The explanation was a defective barrel nut misaligning the barrel. I looked at the bolt and it's the same one with a step. I remounted the Burris AR536 and fired two Hornady rounds (which hit dead center) and the cases are burred and both primer indents are black. Not sure whether to pitch a bitch or try different ammo first. Might be it doesn't like Hornady? My other 2 AR bolts (.223 & .450 BM) don't have this step on the face so maybe I'll swap the bolt from my .223 upper and see if the problem goes away.

Is the head diameter of the case the same as a 223? Seems to me the firing pin may be a bit pointed. Personally I would get them to replace the BCG.
Posted By: tmitch Re: 350 Legend upper - 11/21/19
Rim diameter is the same as the .223, head diameter is .010" larger. A .350 case fits my 223 bolt fine and it doesn't have that step at the bottom

tmitch, So far I've fired about 60 rounds through my upper. No Hornady though. My ammo fired has been all Winchester 145 grain fmj, 150 grain Deer Season XP, and 180 grain Power Point. I've seen no problem with the spent brass. I got the idea for mine from Buffalo's Outdoors on YouTube. He seems like a knowledgable good old boy. Good luck with yours.

Has the Ohio DNR made a ruling on the legend yet? I read an article the other day debating if the bullets actually make the .358 diameter required...

Just to add, I've got a 'lot' of Hornady Black .223 75 grain ammo that the primers look like, if not worse than, the pictures of the primers in you Legend brass. Tried in 3 different rifles, same results, so pretty sure it's not a firing pin issue, at least in my case. Also, the rim's are rough as a cob after firing, again in all 3 rifles, one AR and 2 bolt actions. I'm thinking either soft brass and thin cup primers, or somewhat over pressure, or maybe a combination of all three.
Either way, that "lot" of ammo has been pulled from use.

Biathlonman, ODNR has ruled it to be legal for deer hunting in Ohio.

Went to the range today to shoot my 350 Legend AR15 one more time before the Ohio Deer Gun Season. I'm pretty confident now that any deer inside 150 yards is in trouble. Only get to hunt the first day, so the plan is to sit in the tree stand all day. Does are fair game for me as I like deer meat. Average velocity for the 150 grain Winchester Deer Season XP is 2165 FPS from the 16" barrel. My calculations show almost 1000 lbs. of energy at 150 yds. Because my scope is 2.75" above the bore axis, I'm hitting about .3" high at 50 yds. and 1.2" high at 100. this puts me only about .6" low at 150.
