My bud Dan came out to the ranch to shoot a deer. Didn't have any luck finding one on Saturday. This morning we drove to the south place to look around. While glassing my hayfield, we spotted a coyote out about a half mile. You guys that know me, know I'll shut down just about anything for a chance to whomp a coyote. Using round bales as cover, we made a sneak on him. The sumbish was fixated on a prairie dog mound (or so I thought....), and was totally unaware of his surroundings. When we got to the last bale at the end of the field, I got ready to drill him at about 200 yards. When I peeked around the bale to locate him, something didn't seem quite right. What I can't figger out, is why some bastid would put out a plywood coyote sillywet way out on the prairie, miles from any house? Sure fooled me...... It's been out quite a while as almost all the paint on it has peeled. Since there was no bullet holes in it, I don't reckon it was put out as a target. After a good laugh, we went to the north place and Dan kilt a deer.....
Maybe Pat snuck down there and wired it up to mess with you. His are steel though. Nice buck too.
Shoulda put some holes in it, Dandy buck
LOL. Reminds me of the time as a kid I stalked some duck decoys on a neighbors stock tank.
Nice Mulie !
If it was a golf course, I'd say goose problem.
I'm thinking someone very patient is pranking you.
whats with the chain on the fence?

It is a twist stay. Barbwire fencestay that twists onto the wires to keep them spaced between posts
I found out from the neighbor that owns the place, that he built the coyote to keep the prairie dogs on the other side of the fence from migrating over onto his place. He got a good laugh when told the story...
Hehehehe I got somebody to prank.
Thanks for the idea
Told shorty we have a family project, get the saw from papaw hehehehehe
ha ha. Great story. Thnx for telling us.
Reminds me of a friend & myself on a shorter scale. Years ago we hunted groundhogs
every chance we had.
One day we saw (thot it was) a groundhog sunning in a small brush pile.
We got in position and he made a great head shot —- to LOG.
We both thot it was a groundhog. ha ha.
Congrats to UR friend on the buck.
Jerry
You get got then take it out on a poor deer. Hmmm.
Very nice buck!
That's a great deer for your bud Don !
look like that buck had 2 daddys. right side looks like a whitetail and left side looks mulie split.
Big Ed
I've been known to tie a dead coyote up to a fenceline in just the right spot, then drive around with a friend and scream "coyote! when we "happened" upon the coyote. Then the bullets would start flying. Did it a couple times to a rancher buddy while checking cows on his property. I was called an asshöle both times.
Good times.
Nice buck!
Left one curled up on a hillside too, heard it got ventilated as well.
Funniest story though was a little buck I found dead, stiff as a honeymoon pecker. I managed to prop him up leaning against a tree, and headed for the truck. I barely made it a couple hundred yards, and a few shots rang out. I giggled all the way home.
The next day at work, a buddy told me about his dad shooting a dead deer someone had set up against a tree. I had a hard time keeping a straight face. I had no idea those guys hunted that woods, as it was an hour away for them, only 10 minutes for me, owned by a buddy's grandpa.
Ole sillywets

It's called a fence stay. You twist it down over the wires to keep them separated and at the same distance apart. They make it a real bugger when you have to crawl between the wires.
Don,
That was a great story--it made my day! Those yipper dogs truly are "Wiley" critters!
Congrats to your friend, it's a really nice buck, for sure.
Now that's a good story and a mighty fine buck!
Texas Parks and wildlife used to set up Taxidermy deer along the roadside to catch poachers. They had to switch to archery targets as the deer mounts got shot up so quickly they were cost prohibitive. I think one case may have been over turned when the plaintiff argued that when they used Boone & Crockett sized racks on the fake deer it was a form of baiting. Not sure if that's true but if it is the judge must have been an old poacher too.
LOL on the sillywet !
Nice buck too !
Awesome buck. And what kind of maniac puts out a silhouette like that?
The maniac that owns the place east of me, I reckon.... He put it out to keep the prairie dogs in the pasture behind the silhouette from migrating north onto his place. And he claims it works.... He did get a chuckle when he heard I put a sneak on it.

I've built plenty of barbed wire fences back in the day. We never used any of that!! Of Course we weren't going as far probably so put the posts closer together.
