Home
The boys, my son and his buddy, both punched one of their RIVER WMA doe tags this morning and want to come back this afternoon to see about punching either or both of their remaining tags, one buck and one doe.

Another 1-shot per deer, shoot 'em though the lungs, followed by a 30' stagger and fall over dead harvest via Winchester/Olin's 6.5 Creedmoor 125 grain Deer Season XPs.

As soon as they drag the deer to the truck and load them, we'll be heading off to Wahoo to drop the deer off at the processor, then home to clean up and go out for lunch.

All in all a pretty nice day. This will be my last father-son deer hunt for awhile, as next year he will be off at College. Enjoy your kids while you can, 'cause sooner or later they'll be off living their lives and making their memories without you.
Great job!!!!

I’m fortunate my son travels back here for deer season.
He took his buck this morning. Nice 5x5.

He loves the traditions we started when he was young. I’m sure you and yours will continue after the college years.
Congrats to your son!

We didn't see any bucks that were big enough to shoot this morning, just little basket racks. I counted 17 deer this morning, 13 does and the 4 small bucks. With a little patients and a little luck, a nice one or two may show up between 3:30 and 30 minutes after sunset today.

My Wife and I are retiring out of state, so we may be closing in on the end of our Nebraska hunting. I can't imagine myself coming back and hunting out of a motel room.
260 Where are you heading upon retirement???? Have been thinking about the same thing.. Good job on the deer..
Not sure. I'd prefer southwestern Colorado, but my Wife prefers New Hampshire. Neither place has the nearly the number of deer that we see in Nebraska.
Everyone in our group of six scored a buck.
One son, one brother, a nephew, myself and friend of ours and his son

Our north central NE hunt ends tomorrow morning. Then back home.
Congratulations for a safe and successful hunt!

The boys each punched their remaining antlerless RIVER WMA tag on Sunday afternoon, still no bucks worth shooting.

I shot a buck with a misshapen rack to get him out of the gene pool on Monday.

I pulled down 2 more tree stands that somebody without permission to trespass put up, 5 in total since mid-August.
Great Opening day in NE Nebraska Between the Rivers with my Sons.

Very true!! Glad for everybody that had time afield with family and friends. My son also connected opening day @ 360 yards on his best buck yet. Had him aged at the check-in and he was a 5 1/2 year OLD bruiser! smile

It is. My 68 year old brother shot that with the Win 70 in 270. It's been in our family since purchase. My two brothers and myself and my oldest son have all shot deer with it.

That is the first drop tine he had seen live in 50+ years of hunting. I saw it on Friday before the opener. It is pretty neat to see one. At least here in Nebraska.
The tally for our "regular" firearms deer season that ended today was 2 bucks and 6 does.

My son took 2 does an his buddy took 2 does and a small buck. I had asked the boys not to shoot any small bucks, but my son's buddy shot one anyways.

I took 2 does and a cull buck with four points on one side and an 8" spike on the other side.
I saw a lot of deer this year but were just not quite there in terms of age/rack to pull the trigger. Maybe will have to slip out during MZ season
