Happy Thanksgiving everyone, I have this buck on the property and was wondering what is wrong with him. He looks very light colored and looks like something is wrong. I am trying to figure out if this buck should be shot for the health of the other deer and if he would be eatable. He is in North Texas if that helps. [Linked Image]

If those light spots are covered with hair, that deer is what is called a piebald. More likely from the pictures of the deer's rump, another bigger deer speared him with his antlers when this deer had it's back turned and the wounds on it's rear end have abscessed and you have a very sick deer on your property. I shot one once that had been gored in about the same area and it was sure not feeling well or moving much.

Yeah man those look like festering wounds. Youch. May or may not live through it’s healing or whether the infection hasn’t spread throughout the meat. Sure looks nasty and ya gotta have pity on the poor creature but such is nature.

Looks like it got hit by a car or attacked by coyotes. Might want to pop that one.
Awsomepossum: Looks like the "mange" to me?
Antelope get it rather often here in Montana.

I say let him go to see how he does next year. If he does fine he will be bigger. If not not big deal. Ashes to ashes dust to dust. Or let a kid shoot him. May just be something simple he recovers from
Looks like dr evils deer.
Thanks everyone. I will let him grow bigger and hopefully cross paths again. If he comes to the feeder and looks rough or is limping bad I'll take him. I don't want him to suffer but I'll be watching and see if the color spreads.
let him go... he will not hurt anything and looks healthy.
Looks fine to me. Watch him walk. That’ll tell you what you need to know.
How do you like that feeder?

Thought that was a treestand for pygmies. I'd let the buck heal up and enjoy his fall.
Maybe you should call Animal control and have them look into it, it definitely looks sick
Honestly it's the best feeder I've ever had so far. I really the enjoy the ease of changing the timer or the battery. The timer and battery are on the side so no need to bend down and open the motor. Going on three months now and working like a champ.

This!

Too often people see a limping deer and think "we should put him out of his misery" 9/10 they aren't in misery, merely adapting to a disadvantage, and since you see them alive, in all likelihood have lived that way at least a while. let them go unless you really really want to shoot it. If they could speak and you asked them, I bet they'd say leave me be.
