What, how, why is the price of the new Marlin 336 and 1895 so insane? 1500 to 1800 dollars. Now the older used of course are following suit. I don't mind a guy making a profit so thanks and good luck to the sellers.

Marlin has a scope ready lever action that is rather easy to maintain and customize.

I’ll bet there are quite a few loonies here that buy a rifle. Shoot it for a while, see what accuracy they can get, velocity and bullet performance. Then they sell it.
I do that. Unfortunately, I normally lose money in the long run.
How do you sell a 336 that cost you $375 and to replace it with a new 336? Even if you jack the price a couple hundred bucks, you’ll not to buy a replacement without losing quite a bit. I don’t keep records as well as many do, because it would show the money I lose and I’d rather not know, I guess. I don’t mind losing $100 on the deal, because the fun of having that rifle for a while is worth it.
I’m old enough to remember military 03’s and 03-A3’s for under $10. Should a guy that bought the $10 rifle sell it for $10 today? How about Mauser 98’s that cost $3 to $5 each?
I don’t recall prices going so high, so fast as in the past couple of years. Some have said that the prices have settled down. Maybe, it may be true to some extent to common everyday guns, but not all guns - I believe anyhow.

If you bought within the last 5 years...value is a good 30% or more above purchase price.

Is there a better place to have your retirement funds than in good rifles? The banks are paying a pittance for an interest rate. Put your money into savings right now and watch the value of your savings dwindle.

One issue with high inflation for the working man. The income tax rates go up as the dollar amount you take in goes up. Never mind that a $150,000 per year income now has a value of maybe $40,000 in the 70’s. But you’re paying a lot more in taxes.

The new top-end 1895s are listed at $1350 at Sportsman's Warehouse which isn't known as a discount place. Not sure where you get your numbers but it would seem someone is ripping folks off.

That price at Sportsman's is fairly in line with the cost of a similar "level" of Winchester '94.

A Super Blackhawk "hunter" that was around $600 a few years ago just clawed past $1000.

The point is, there's nothing unusually high about the Marlin cost. It sucks, it hurts, but it is what stuff costs today. Go try to find a new pickup .. compare it to the price of a the same truck, same equipment level 5 years ago. Prepare for heart attack.
