At one time Marlin would accept special orders. I was wondering if they would assemble a unported 16.5" M1894? Their web page says no custom work, but I'm not sure if that is the same thing.

Sadly it means no special orders.

I know the official policy is no special orders, but I also know of guys who have sent their rifles back for longer barrels or for barrels without ports. In all cases, the customer has sent back a rifle for work and not ordered a custom specifically from Marlin. Try giving them a call and see what they say.

They will switch out barrels etc. but only with standard production parts. They do not do any custom work. For example you can send in a 1894 20" RB and for around $275 they will convert it to a cowboy model with the 24" octagon barrel.
