Two years ago I picked up an blued Marlin 1894 44mag with 20" barrel. It was an JM stamped on the original Marlin barrel and it has the crossbolt safety. The barrel is not micro groove, but has conventional rifling. It's not an cowboy model either but just an plain Jane blued 20" model.

I had assumed that the cowboy models were the only 44mag that didn't use micro groove barrels before the Remjngton takeover.

Just wondering if it's odd that my 44 doesn't use Marco groove? Is that the norm?

Ballard rifling started early/late 90's......Micro Groove prior....correct me if wrong..my '05 44 SS is Ballard......

Read away..along with looking at the date charts..........
