I just picked up a 1971 94 in 44 mag.at the local gun show. It has the gold saddle ring and trigger. I have a 1972 336 in 30-30 with the same gold saddle ring and trigger, that I got when I was a kid. I have noticed that I dont see them often.
Are these scarce, and are the ones with the saddle rings worth more?

I was thinking about mounting a 2.5 fixed power on the 1894, opinions on what brand scope ?

Thanks.

That Weaver is a good scope. Several of my friends have them on 30-30s and 45 Colts. And they shoot stout loads in the 45s. Not cowboy loads.

On page 218 of Brophys book. Marlinfirearms

States the saddlering was issued between 1969 and 1971.

If you are going to hunt in the winter time I would recommend an illuminated reticle if you can find one.

Thanks Angus. You just made me spend $90 bucks on that book. grin

I ended up putting a 2.5 Burris on the gun, I like it so far.

It is a most wonderful book.

My uncle who was a hard core gun trader would always ask me if I ever talked to him.

" u get brophys book yet?"

I finally did. Paid 90 bucks just like you!

I reference mine often as well as my "The Ninety-Nine" by DP Murray. Royal's book "Savage 99 Rifle" is also a good reference that picks up chronologically where Murray left off.
