Just picked up my "new" 1976 model 39m last night. Looks fine, shoots fine, functions fine.

The butt plate screws are gold, is this correct? Never seen this before...
Never heard of the gold screws, but 1976 was bi-centennial everything that year,so maybe they did that year.I bought one in 1975.It was a very accurate shooter.I decided to put a scope on it about ten years ago and Wow!!! that thing shoots bug holes.A friend bought a Winchester 9422 the same time as I bought mine. That Marlin has a louder crack sound than the Winchester.I wish I could have chronographed the two to see what the velocity difference was.Between the two,I'd take the marlin anyday.Enjoy your Marlin.
Thanks bald,

I wondered about the bi-centennial thing. Could be...

I have a '75 model 39a and it has the normal black screws.
Mine, 80 I think, Original Golden 39M, just has a gold trigger.

And I think it had a gold bead front sight. But after I put a scope on it I took the front sight off to make it more snag free. And now, who knows where it's at.

It is also very accurate.

I own a 1976 39M that I received new as a gift from my dad. Mine has the standard, blued screws for the butt plate.
Just got a 1978 Golden 39 M gold butt plate screws. This is 2nd one I have other one is a 1963 no golden screws in it. Both great shooters.
No matter why the gold screws are there you should have a wonderful shooter there. I used a 2 3/4 X Redfield wide scope on it for years. At 75 yards it was quite fun to surprise squirrels in the good old days. I don't have that habitat to hunt in now. It was the woods where I learned a lot about stalking. Squirrels will teach you some honest technique about stalking and hand you your hat some days. Be Well and shoot a 39A, RZ.

My Golden 39M has the gold screws in the butt plate but has a blued trigger. It’s a 1982 model
Dang, i have an Original Golden 39M too, need to go check the screws, can swear they're blue steel.
Yep, serial no 271264XX, blue steel screws.
