Has anyone had a 336C rebored to either .375 Win or .38/55? Have one on the way, but don’t know if the barrel is thick enough for reboring to the larger bores. I already have several other .30 cals, nothing larger except a .44 mag, and that’s not much past 100, and it’s not suitable for scoping. Always had an urge for one or both of those mentioned.
Here's your man and he does good work.

I’ve had Alan Siegrist reborn two Marlins to 38-55 for me. If I size my cast bullets to .379, they will shoot MOA or better. I’m very happy with their performance. Quality work with a fast turnaround.

Why not just buy a Marlin 336ER in 356 Win?
Because the .356 is deader than disco, and while I’ve read that they may feed .358 brass, I’d much rather just buy ready-to-use Starline. Factory ammo is extremely rare and expensive.

The .375 & .38/55 are legal in many of the straight-wall states. If I do this, I’ll check the regs for places I might want to visit and decide based on that.

And the number one answer is:

The .30/30 is coming here in a trade regardless, and so the only added expense will be the re-bore.
I have a 336 Texan that was rebored by a prior owner to 38-55. I believe the work was done by JES. I haven’t done much with cast bullets but it shoots jacketed bullets very well.

Have a friend who had Jes rebore a .30-30 M.64 to .375-55 so he could use .375" bullets in it. He's very pleased with it.
It arrived from FL yesterday. It’s clearly “been hunted”. Stock needs re-finished, metalwork is pretty good for a 43 year-old. Mechanically it’s very good and clean inside. Doubt it’s fired 100 rounds. Some doofus drilled the bullseye for the swivel stud and the barrel-band sling stud is way out at the end. Not a purist so I’ll make it how I want it after I shoot it some. Has a Cabelas 3-9 that’s gonna go. Weighs 10oz more than my M70 EW with its Trijicon 3-9, 8lbs 6oz. Not sure where I go with sighting just yet.

Bought some ammo online and my cousin is bringing more later.

Anyone that needs .30/30 ammo for this season better get crackin’. Not much out there, whether due to early shopping or low supply, I can’t say.
I had a 336 rebored and chambered by JES rebore, to 38-55 Win.. I have neck problems and had to quit my 45-70, but I wanted a straight walled cartridge. I had a problem making myself down load the 45-70s, so now I can't hurt myself as bad! The 38-55 is a good compromise, and the recoil is manageable. JES bores it to the same diameter as the .375, so jacketed bullets aren't a problem like in some of the older rifles with slightly larger bores.

As you know the 38-55 was first. They used the same case and made the 30-30.
I use 30-30 brass for my cast loads in my 375. The 38-55 and the 30-30 were not high pressure rounds. Unless the barrel is very thin I would have it re-bored with no concern.
I wouldn’t be concerned with 38-55 loads, personally. I would measure wall thickness at 375 pressure.
Decided to invest in dies for the .30/30 and just shoot it as is for now. Pulled the Pine Ridge 3-9 and ordered new bases from Warne, which are a bit lower than the Weavers, based on pics. Have Warne low rings if I decide to re-scope it, but like it better at just over 7lbs than over 8, so I’m gonna play with other options for a bit. Old eyes make irons tough in the field so red dots and prisms are in the running, though no doubt offensive to some. I take my responsibility to make a clean shot very seriously, so I’m going with what works for that.

Found out that Burris sells a direct-mount option for the Fastfire sights. It puts the sight much lower than a regular base/Pic mount. It mounts directly in the holes on top. Turnbull makes mounts for Winchesters that use the receiver sight holes, but nothing for the Marlins.

Thanks for all the info.
OK, admittedly here a 'quick read'. But... If .375 Win chambering is a contingency, why not just buy one? Mine from 1980 is a damned nice rifle! As far as "rebore", the predominant thought here seems to be such service calculated as the extent of "costs". Unless you can do it yourself, the matter of barrel removal and reinstallation as $$$. The headspace issue? The cost & complexities if having to ship an entire rifle if the case. Not sure where "cost accounting" went out the window here, but if you're a Klutz as me, you'd need the whole 'package' and 'that' making little sense compared with my above suggest purchase! Add too, based on candidate rifle description, maybe refinish or something lesser.
The net, net! Worth of such a rifle as conjured, "beauty and value", clearly in the eyes of the beholder... And not many others, seeming for sure!

Just my take!
Best!

Just pipe-dreaming John. Always have something churning around the ol’ punkin’. Plus, as noted above, this one came to me in a trade with a family member, so is already here.

The latest nonsense from the express companies concerning shipment of firearms by individuals is gonna make a lot of notions more expensive to pursue. Might well be a deal-killer here. I can acquire a nice Henry SS in several straight-wall choices for $500.
USPS still ships long guns OR your FFL can ship it.

Hardly a reason to wuss out on a rebore.
Go for the 405 JES and have something special that's a real hammer.
There is a choice of caliber options as said above, but Jesse (JES) is the only guy to do the work. Great work done fast and reasonable. What else can you ask for ?

Like I GAF what you think, dipschitt.
Okay as you have no idea of the facts.
Whatever Cupcake. AMF
Jess rebored my 30TK to 375 and it's my favorite Marlin lever gun ever. I've owned a couple of the factory 375s as well as a 356 ER and a Marauder in .35 Rem but this one is the best.
