I'm looking for a 336 in 35 and was wondering if they came in different grooves?
Which is preferable?
Thanks,
David

It's a micro-groove.

I happen to like MC barrels, and you can actually shoot cast lead in them with or without gas checked bullets. Just use very hard lead in the 18 BHn range or better if you don't run a gas check.

The downside to MC seems to be when people shoot paper patch or cast boolits but don't make the lead hard enough. Then they will say that MC won't run properly but it's just like shooting cast in glock OEM barrels. If you cast 'em right, you can run 'em without a problem.
the 336 XLR .35 is Ballard rifling instead of Microgroove ...
.

I have rifles with Ballard and rifles with Micro-groove barrels. I shoot cast bullets in both and find no difference that matters between the two. Any rifle does better with bullets that fit the barrel

The important part is to cast your bullets bore diameter or up to a couple thousandths over. Hard isn't the most important aspect but air cooled wheelweights are hard enough.
water cooled is good too
