I'm new to leveractions. I have a 336CB in 38-55. Is there a difference in size between the 336 and the 1895 actions. The 45-70 is only 20 thousands longer than the 38-55. I have asked a few gun shop people and nobody seem to know? This has probably been asked already but I'm also new to these forums, Thanks for any light you all can shed on this. Seeya

There is no difference in size of the receiver on my 1895's compared to my 336's. I believe that the only difference is in the size of the ejection port which looks to be slightly enlarged on the 1895 to accomodate the larger cartridges.

Also, the 336's seem to have slimmer wood whereas my 1895 has very generously cut stocks which make it seem larger.

If you are thinking of getting an 1895, do it, they are lots of fun. Good shooting.

The word from the now defunct Marlin boards is that from 1972 onwards, ALL the 336 actions were/are heat treated to the same level. You are quite correct, they are identical, with, as GLC points out, some minor differences on the hammer slot and loading gate. I too have just got myself one of the new 38-55CB's, and man, does it shoot! Breakin' in the barrel now with some jacketed,,, I'll be switchin' to cast lead after a coupla' hunnert rounds.

Thanks, that clears things up. R*2, when you get to the lead, shoot a bullet as close to bore dia as possible. My bore is .3803, I'm using Laser cast 240gr .380 bullets w/20gr of H4198,CCI 200 primers.OAL is 2.994 which just clears the ejection port. It only clocks 1250 to 1300 fps in the manual but it prints WAY under 1" at 100yds off the bench w/ receiver sights and a front post. I neck turned the brass and only neck size the case and use a light crimp w/ a Lee collet crimper. I never would have believed a lever could shoot under an inch but this one does and its a keeper.
