Do any of you have experience shooting them out of a 336? I literally had to
Bite the bullet and buy a box of 20 because suckafornia is now lead free hunting.
I'm gong to sight in with federal ammo, pop a few of the Barnes to make sure I'm
At least 4 moa at 100 yards.

I love my .30-30

I have never seen 140 grain 30-30 bullets in either loaded ammo or packaged bullets. I assume you mean 150 grain TSX loaded in Vor-tx ammo.

The 150s are great. I've only seen a couple people with the factory loaded Vor-tx ammo, but the were surprised how accurate it was. What I have loaded is far and away the best 30-30 ammo I have ever had. Sub MOA out of my 336 and 2400 FPS with that accuracy. If I remember right, the Barnes loaded ammo runs at 2335 FPS. I used LeverEvoluton powder loading mine and I am pretty sure mine are loaded with 35.5 to get the 2400 FPS. I started from the Hodgdon online data for the Sierra 150 grain. I got sub moa accuracy at 35.5 and quit right there because I had 2400 FPS which is pretty good for a 30-30. I tested the bullets into water jugs down to either 1100 or 1300 FPS and got ad copy expansion. I never did look to see what I could get if I pushed to the max load of 38.5 grains of LeverEvolution powder. The 35.5 grain load is a noticeably mild load in terms of recoil and muzzle blast, particularly compared to the Hornady Flex tip 160 grain factory ammo. I am much happier with the loads using the Barnes 150 TSX than anything I have ever put through my 336. Haven't killed a lot of deer with the 336 and the 150 TSXs, just a couple, but they performed just like every other Barnes bullet I have killed deer with and the HAVE been a lot of them in calibers from .223 to 50 muzzle loader.

If they shoot well out of your rifle, stock up. I think the Remington Hog Hammer factory ammo is OEMed by Barnes. I had trouble getting enough of the bullets to last me.

I would have to look up the loads, if I haven't lost them, as it's been a while since I loaded some of my Barnes 30-30 loads. However, they're a definite performance enhancement, in my limited, anecdotal view from using them on 5-6 deer. Seems to be more energy transfer at impact.

Again, thanks for responding! Great info.

The Barnes are very accurate. I sighted in a couple of weeks ago and was dropping 3/4-1.5 inch groups @ 100yards.
Not bad shooting with a hot barrel etc.... I freaking love this dang thing.

I have some lead free bullets i need to re load. That should be fun!

No buck yet.... saw a tall spike but that was it.

Cool.

I still wish they had the same version in 35.
