A couple years ago I bought a Marlin 336 built the same year I was as a birthday present to myself. It shot so well it was just a joy. I let a buddy use it for deer hunting one weekend and by the end he needed one of his own, but he ended up finding a 35 Remington to call his own. Well, I liked his so much I decided I needed a twin to my 30-30 (see how this co-dependency thing works?) Just recently I lucked into a 35 Remington, built early in 1968 (like me), and as luck would have it no one else on GB wanted it so for $415 +$30 shipping it came home with me today. I took the Weaver K4 off and put a Leupold 4X compact on it to match my other Marlins. In less than a box of core-locks I have it shooting like this.

I understand. My uncle sent me a 1981 vintage 336 .30-30. I love that rifle. I took off the cheap scope and mounted an aperture. It shoots three-shot cloverleaves at 50 yards with PPU 170s. I have several rifles. When I open the gun cabinet, it is the first rifle I pick up. I would love a matching .35 Rem to go with it.

Angus - I know you do. I'm just glad I got this one before you did.

The thing that impresses me with these 60s era Marlins is their accuracy. This is my 3rd, and counting my buddy's we have 5 total and all have shot 1" groups or less with nothing more than a 4X scope.

I wish my Marlin 336 in .35 shot Rem core lokt ammo that well. Glad yours does....nice snag.

My 1992 336 in .30-30 acts like a good bolt action, routinely shooting 3/4" groups at 100 yards with a 1-4x20 VX-2 aboard.

My Marlin was my go-to rifle also. I gave it to one of my daughters, miss them both at times.

My question about the 35 Remington, why can't it be loaded to or near 375 win pressures?

Because you already have a 375 Angus, and the 35 would be pissed.

No I mean did they beef up the 375 action?

I got some 35 R.E.M.'s also. I love the 220 grain bullet the 35 shoots.....just want to add more...........wait for it.........kinetic energy to the ordinance.

My uncle was a Winchester man through and through. In the final years of his life he discovered Marlins. They are wonderful pieces of Americana.

I have the .30-30 and 35 Rem combo as well. Both JM stamped. Great guns.

The .35 Rem will be hunting with me in Montana this fall.

My first deer rifle was a Glenfield 30A, bargain version of the 336. Used it with much success and still have it. I recently picked up a Rem 760 in .35 Rem, always wanted a 336 so chambered, still do. Maybe one day.

I also shoot an 1895 CB, an 1894 in .44 Mag, and recently acquired an 1894 in .218 Bee. Gotta get the Bee to actually feed. Only issue I've ever had with a Marlin, feeding is non-existent but it is accurate.

The 336SC I have, from 1960, will walk once the barrel gets hot, but while the pipe is still cool, it'll dot snake-eyes . A feller shouldn't need more than two shots when deer huntin', if he's careful and smart when choosing his shot(s). It's a nice little gun, and fun to shoot. I don't bother loading for it, ammo companies have had over a hundred years to get the stuff right.
