Slick action, sights beat up on it but mostly good with brown patina generally all over it. It will not stabilize bullets though and I recrowned it once. I guess I could shorten it to just behind the front sight and crown it again but what are my options for a rebarrel? Will a barrel from a post safety rifle fit?
Lots of guys get em rebored from that jes place if ya can afford it.
Sounds like a good winter project gun. Redo the metal, redo wood , put a good receiver sight and matching height front sight on it.
Wind up with a new to you hunting rifle.
My 36g project is around 70% done , I'm kinda piddling around with it. But it has a excellent bore so that ain't a stumbling block in the project.
I would like to keep the rifle a 30-30, the rebore options being 375 Win, 356 Win and 38-55 turns the rifle a bit away from a easy shooting rifle and all require some work to get shooting.
GIVE IT A REBORE TO 450 BUSHMASTER
Guy on the gunsmithing forum has a thread about relining 336 barrel
Have you tried longer/shorter bullets?

If you had it rebored to .32 Special it would still shoot and perform just like a .30-30.
Ordered a new barrel and will have a local 'smith install it. The 30-30 just has too many options to pass on, especially cheap available ammo and light recoil.
Where did you get a barrel and how much was it?
Gunparts.com, $82.00 shipped.
The "smith" installed the barrel and I am about to re assemble the rifle. I think the barrel has "Glenfield" written on it but that's fine with me as it looks great inside.
