I've got a 336 .44 Magnum I'm thinking about selling. The rifle is pre saddle ring manufactured in 1964 I believe per the z 2xxx serial number. Everything's original except the buttpad, factory one cracked so I replaced it with one ordered from Numrich. What do you think would be a fair price for the rifle? The rifle is in great shape for its age. I'll post some pics if I can figure the process out.

I too have the same rifle as you minus the saddle ring. I think these have some collector value and I think it will vary by location. You might do best by selling it using something like GunBroker that will get you national attention. Some people say they don't feed well and that is why Marlin discontinued them. Mine feeds great it just took a good cleaning and lub. Any value I would give you would be just a guess but I would say something north of $600.

I think $600 is way optimistic. Too many people have heard the same thing about them not feeling well. I haven't had one so can't say one way or the other, but that was the first thing that came to my mind. I think you would be way fortunate to get $500. Probably less not being original.

The 336 in 44mag is fairly rare and worth checking values if you are looking to sell your rifle. As suggested, gunbroker is a good resource but over on the Marlin Owners site there is a sub forum for this model. You will get a better understanding of the value if you ask around there.

Picked up HC's 44 mag 336. Great shape as he said. While I was in the lgs picking up my gun looked at some new Marlins. Just not the same as this 1964 year built gun the 1894 on the rack seemed clunkier for a lack.of a better word fit and finish just not as precise going to the range tomorrow

SLDUCK, I hope your day at the range was a good one with your 336/44mag. Feeding problems always come up when talking about the 336 in 44 mag. I bought one in 1967 and never had any problems with it. It was accurate and reliable. I have my second one now since I passed the first one on to my son a few years ago and no problems with it either.

I think Marlin might have had some problems with getting the 336 action to feed a short cartridge initially, but I think that they must have gotten it figured out. Of the four I have had experience with, none have had feeding troubles and all have shot great. I'd buy a third one in a second and might just start looking for one without a saddle ring so I'd have a set.

I bought one used in 1967 or '68. I first deer hunted with it and, being a handloader and tinkerer, shot many more jacketed bullet loads than most hunters would. I quit hunting with it years ago, but still shot it with cast bullets (yes, they can work well in Microgroove rifling). After a few hundred jacketed and cast rounds, not a single jam.
