I just saw a model 1881 Marlin thin frame (made 1895 I believe) in 38-55 that is factory engraved. WOW! This is one that was "discovered" and came out of the family closet after 100+ years. It has a tiny chip out of the toe of the stock but otherwise it appears unaltered. The letter from Cody is on the way to the owner but by phone it sounds correct. That is one you don't see everyday! He let me take a couple of pictures of it but I never have figured out how to post them on here.

Does anyone have any information to share?

I have a early thin frame model 1881 in 32-40 that is factory engraved with a circassion walnut stock. The engraving was done by one of the Ulrich's and under the buttplate was a name and address,it belonged to a sawmill owner in Penn. Heres a few pictures.

Thank you. I believe he said the letter from Cody is on the way. Obviously someone was pretty successful in 1885 to order something like this!

160user. The letters for Marlins from cody dont really say much for Marlins. I went and checked my letter and there was nothing on it about being engraved. Don

A truly remarkable rifle.

All I got from the Cody letter on my Marlin 1893 in 38-55 was the caliber, Octagonal barrel, length 26 inches and date shipped-- August 16, 1893. But I was very happy to find out it was a first year rifle! Was worth it to me anyways.
