I was under the impression that they were not being made any longer.

As far as I'm aware they're not.
They're not in the Hornady paper
catalog any longer, and none of
my usual sources can supply any.
The only way I know to get them
now is stuffed in the business end
of Hornady loaded ammunition.

Hornady sucks all the way around . They quit making .375 220 grain bullets for the 375 win .They quit making 405 win brass after being so famous for bringing it back .They have quit making tons of bullets people really liked.I hate their dies and their 405 brass was terrible too thick .I like their xtp pistol bullets but the rest are not as good as other brands .

Just me- I get the impression they're putting
all their efforts toward the eld bullets and the like.
Don't know what they cost, but I'd guess it's
considerably more than the #4300

They are putting all efforts on what will sell and be profitable just as you would if you owned a business, particularly in these times. Thinking 405 Win stuff was not a hot seller...

Get some Lehigh .429 solids.

Have you tried all the cast bullet manufacturers?

Shouldn't be impossible to find .429 -.431 dia bullets and a good time to wean yourself from jacketed.

For a .430” JFP specifically dedicated to the 444 Marlin Hawk Bullets makes a 200gr, 225gr, 250gr, 265gr, 275gr and 300gr. You have your choice of two jacket thicknesses of medium at 0.025”or more stout 0.035” depending on desired penetration and expansion on selected game.

Woodleigh makes a great 280gr weldcore JFP dedicated to the 444 Marlin with a soft nose that would be superb on big game. Could easily drive at 2,200 fps and expansion would be textbook.

I’m going to order a couple of boxes from both this week. Will be loading the 250gr Hawk w/.035” jacket and drive at 2,400 fps. Weldcores drive at around 2,200 fps.

BTW Hornady is really blowing it by moving off of the JFP production. One of the best terminal wounding characteristics of a tube feed lever is utilizing FP bullets that open big wounding cavities and devastate game. Most are enamored by the range and the FTX, if range were my intention I would just shoot my 308 Win, 7mm Mag or 338 Win Mag. A scoped 444 Marlin loaded with big JFP or a WHC is so formidable on large game out at 200 yards why bother with the FTX. Only one man’s opinion.

Have you tried cast bullets?

If none available, you could cast your own or pay a company to do so.

Foe similar reasons, I have laid in a good supply of components for my .405 WCF. As you know .411 same as for the 450/400 .

Oh yeah. Woody cast a few 300 plus grainers and tthey work great.... As to the 405, I have what you might call a "Lifetime supply" of TSXs, Hornadys AND North Forks both soft and even solids...Oh yeah, two cases of factory stuff I bought on clearance

I shoot a bullet cast from a Saeco mold. 265gr with a GC. Cast out of scrape wheel weights with a Bhn of about 11. Sized at .430. I drive them to 1800fps out of the 24" Bbl of my Win 94 44 mag. They shoot great. Maybe you might want to consider casting?

+1. The Hornady Superperformance ammo with the 265 gr FP bullet is both accurate and devastating on deer and hogs. It has been so good, that I bought several boxes of this bullet (before they discontinued it) and will handload them. I have nothing against the FTX version but like the quote above, if I need extra range, I'll use my 270. Also, the brass for once fired Hornady FTX ammo is shorter than normal and can only be used for the FTX bullet.

the 265 grain FP Hornady was the best bullet I fired from my .444 in terms of accuracy and bullet toughness. I'll admit I did not try any of the specialty bullets, just common jacketed .429 bullets that were available locally.

I did not try the 270 grain Speer either, but I understand it to be comparable to the Hornady.

I mostly shoot my cast 310 gr gas checked bullets in my Marlin 18" bbl 444P. They average 1908 FPS over my Oehler cronograph. Only ever recovered one from a deer as most blow through. I measured the wound channel from front shoulder entry to opposite rear ham. 37 inches.......So fellers . Those cast bullets will do the job if jacketed are not available.

I've always used the Hornady 300 gr XTP in mine.... running it at about 1850 fps...

In all aspects it did better than the 265 gr FP in respect to accuracy, knock down capability, feeding...

I could push all of Hornady's FP bullets much faster, with more recoil... but noticed that , there is so little with anything to do with aerodynamics on those bullets,
that dropping the velocity from 2200 to 2400 fps ( depending upon bullet weight) to 1800 to 1850 fps, I reduced felt recoil by about 40% or so, while giving up about
10 yrds of point blank range..... maybe they shoot better because I am not flinching with that much reduction in recoil...

I am using SR 4759 powder in mine, to achieve these results.... but then I picked up four 8 lb containers of it, when they had it on sale when they were dropping that
powder line....at about $110 for an 8 lb jug....

due to the 44 Rem mag, the XTP bullets have always been available....

Thanks for the info on hawk bullets. Never heard of them and now planning to try some .38 cal and also some 275gr for the T4.
