Howdy,
I recently purchased a Winchester 71 that had been re-barreled to 475 Turnbull.

I have load data for jacketed bullets from Turnbull Restoration, but am having trouble finding information about loading cast lead bullets. I found a box of 410 Gr. Lead Wide Flat Nose Gas Check bullets by Cast Performance at Midway USA and have them coming. I've loaded for a ton of different chamberings using jacketed bullets over the years but have very little experience loading cast lead.
I'm asking if you guys might have a load your prefer and at what velocity does one start having problems with lead fouling in a barrel?
Thanx, in advance!

gdub, I don't have any experience with the 475T, but we did run Cast Performance cast gas checked bullets to just short of 2000 fps without any leading problems. Give Grizzly Cartridge a call. I bet Mike or one of them can help you out.

Nice pick up.

A lot of 475 cal cast bullets are likely designed for pistols, ie they may not be gas checked and are designed for lower velocities / pressure. Before loading a heap of them check they fit the throat and, when loaded in the case, they feed and cycle properly.
I have used cast bullets in a 475 Turnbull, have also used them in other big bore rifles, all the bullets were gas checked,no leading issues at all at max speeds,it's been awhile,I am going to PM you with a load direct from Doug Turnbull.
Got your PM, and replied.

Appreciate you taking the time to do that.

Best,

GWB
