After quite a few attempts I finally managed to get another half decent pic with my Marlin 1895 45/70 & muzzle flash. The magic load was 51.5gns H335 & 300gn Speer JHP. It's a different pic from that used on my avatar but just as difficult to get all the same.

Good ol H335!

Seriously, H335 is going to flash in pretty much every cartridge it is used. At least in the 3 cartridges I've used it in.

The very best powder for the 45-70 is H4198, IMHO.

Yep, my go to powder in that rifle is H4198, but when it comes to getting muzzle flash pics H335 is the best candidate.

Would kinda go along with THAT.

They can be pretty stout when loaded hot which IMHO is unnecessary.

But, then again...RL-7, 2400, 5744 and Unique work well for me.

Plan on working up some loads for IMR 4895 soon as I can find some, again.

In the Western USA, you better have a firetruck nearby when touchin' off those fireballs!

My Rossi 92 with a 300 grain cast or jacketed puts out a muzzle flash similar to that with 20 grains of H-110. It tends to get peoples attention, if they are standing near by. My Siamese Mauser launching a Lyman 445 grain cast and a compressed load of IMR-4064, I never noticed a muzzle flash early in the morning nor in the late evening.
Ya Know you could set up a barber shop out in the woods and use that muzzle flash for giving fellows a trim.

I also found H335 to be one of the worst for muzle flash
