Dave Clements is doing them.

You are so right, sir.I talked to Dave about 5 months ago and one of his rifles will be on my shoulder this season.

Sometime ago I raised this question to the guys here at the fire and many thought I was overdue for a check up.

Looked long and hard for a reamer in this configuration (2 1/2 years ) and dumblucked on Mr. Clements.Came VERY close to having one cut.

OK, Back to the original question. After hearing some opinions then I will state what got me going in this direction.

Let the games begin.

not much different than the 33 wcf i always thought the 416 barnes to be the ticket however i never did it.

If one is going to go to the trouble of chambering a 348/45-70 wildcat for the Marlin 1895 I wonder why one wouldn't also modify the action to cycle a 2.7" round?

Both good and valid points but, ctw , a 416 Barnes in our Pa. whitetail woods be IMHO ludicrous.

Jack, I sustained some serious shoulder nerve damage some years ago and over time it has greatly improved. However my love of the 1895 and lack of a 71 brought me to this solution. Never could shoot a 71 very well anyway. Sold mine awhile back. Maybe shouldn't have but, I did.

Keep 'em coming guys.

It'll be an interesting rifle for sure. Looking forward to seeing photos and a test report!

That sounds like fun as well but 30 cal bullets would be in the 30-30 class or one could always DIY.

30-45/70 Hmmmmmmmmmmm
170 gr. Hornadys

bang flop or would the velocity be too high ??

Maybe not if you use Partitions. Most of the .308 flat points work best under 2500 fps but can get a little frangible above that.
