If it was mine, I would go with the 4X. IMHO, 6X is overkill. I would even consider looking at a 2X or 2.5X.

Stush, my thoughts exactly, except for the difference in lens coatings I wouldn't have even asked. The 6x42 seems way over kill, and don't see any use at all for their 6x36. I have a 2.75x on my 1895 Guide Gun and wanted just a little more on this 22" barreled one.

I put a VariXIII 1.5-5 on my 1895, and I love it. Excellent scope and looks good on the rifle also. You can find them on E-bay in the price range you are looking at.

Well, went ahead an ordered the Leupold 4x33 Matt, from SWFA for $219. Never ocured to me to check with Premiere Recticles first, I could have gotten it from them for $220 and ordered the 4a reticle at the same time for just an extra $30. Well live and learn, the standard duplex will have to do for the time being. As for the scope, I understand that the 4x33 doesn't have the Mc4 coating, but I can't find any information on whether its nitrogen filled and fog proof. Maybe some one here knows. Any way, at the same time I called Talley Manufacturing and ordered their screw type quick release rings and bases for it. Was going to get their peep sight also, but they said they have stoped producing them for awhile. Hope this isn't for long as this was the whole reason for going with the Talley rings in the first place.

I have a Leupold 1-4 SG scope on my 444P. I don't think you can beat it. About the same money as the plain 4X plus you can crank it down for still hunting. Good Luck!

Wow, concensus appears to favor very low powered scopes, I have been resisting mounting a scope on my .444 since getting it, but it came with the scope base and hammer spur so I am going to give in & mount a spare Bushnell 2.5-8x42 that I got off a buddy on a trade last year. Years ago I relied on a straight 6x scope, it served me well & back then I didn't trust the variable power scopes, with changes in scope design I have changed so now all my scopes are of the variable power style. Let us know how well the scope you ordered works for you on the range & in hunting situations.
