Have a chance at a NIB BLR in 450 Marlin. Been a 45-70 nut for years.
Anyone have any experience with the Browning? Not looking to load it any hotter than my 45-70 loads. Just like the rifle.

I don't have any experience with one, but I'm going to approach this conversation strictly from the Enabler's point of view.

Nice looking rifle, great cartridge that has much potential in the Browning platform, you can go 50 Kpsi with the attendant performance.....and recoil.

Just gather you some brass.

And, what I've seen out of the .45-70, you don't need 50 Kpsi loads to do what a .45-70 is supposed to do.

That cartridge is a marvelous conversion for a short-mag bolt rifle.

The BLR is a fantastic rifle. I have one in 358 Winchester.

It's also a relatively light rifle, so be prepared for the recoil with a 450 Marlin.

I had the camo stainless carbine version BLR in 450. I used it for crawling down bear trails through manzanita thickets when bear hunting. I liked everything about it except the hammer. I prefer lever guns w/o. Recoil is a pleasant stiff push. Not like a 300 magnum, so no worries. If you like the BLR and don't mind recoil, you'll like it just fine.

This is a rifle/cartridge i am also considering, my only drawback to buying one is the lack of available factory ammo compared to the 45-70 cartridge......Hb

Rabbitdog, I had a take-down BLR in .450 for a time. It shot well, and the TD feature was a blessing for travel to Africa. I installed a ghost ring sight. In my view, this was the best of the BLRs of its time. I wish I'd kept it and a first-edition .308. .... Wayne

The biggest issue for me would be the trigger. Mostly they have heavy triggers and there aren't many smiths that can work on them properly.

I recently purchased a NIB BLR takedown in .308 and the trigger broke at 6.5lbs which really wasnt as bad as thought it would be but I have it at a locall smith's shop now, he said he can lower the pull weight a little and I got him installing some sling studs (which it did not have..wtf?)...anyhow, He said it would be 3 weeks before he can have it back to Me......I do love the feel of the BLR rifle and fit and finish is very impressive indeed.....Hb

Been thinking of a BLR in 450 Marlin for bear protection when hiking or camping. I had a pistol grip BLR 243 bored to to 260 Rem that was a delight to carry for deer and miss it a lot. Should have kept it. This would work great to get me back into a BLR and also have a powerful carbine for bear protection. I had a 375 Ruger but it was heavy and didn't fit well, super accurate though. I think I will not even scope it and just run the iron sights.

Looks like lots of good bullets that could fit the bill, 350 gr Swift, Woodleigh or Speer, 405 Woodleigh, Barnes 300 gr TTSX or maybe even a cast bullet. Don't know why I never looked at this combo before.........

It would be close to the equivalent to a 450 Alaskan shot out of a Marlin as you can load the BLR to more pressure. Very tempting.

It is a thumper and the BLR points and handles exceptionally well. I have looked at some of your stuff on youtube and find quite interesting, keep up the great work smile

I bought a new BLR takedown in .450 Marlin and I love it! This rifle shoots factory Hornady 325 FTX loads in 1"-1.25" 3 shot groups @100yds, function is perfect with a 5.5lb trigger pull and fit and finish are both outstanding.....I would highly recommend this rifle......Hb
