New to the big bore game. I bought this to hunt black bear (with dogs in NC & without in VA) and a brush gun for whitetails. Any thoughts on the Hornady 250 gr?
Thanks
The problem with Hornady lever ammo is if you reload, you need to trim brass, and possibly keep seperate.

I just ordered some Hornady 350 interlocks. Doesn't have bc, but not an issue where I hunt.
The LE bullets are a little too frangible for my tastes, but they'll probably work just fine, just don't expect penetration to be the best in class.

Use regular brass and load Speer Unicors/Plinkers if you want to use a light bullet, run them as fast as you want. The integrity of the Unicore is much better than a LE bullet. The regular Hornady 300 grain HP is good if you keep MV less than 1900 fps, or it becomes frangible, also.

If you don't reload, buy factory ammo featuring the Speer bullet.

I prefer a 400+ grain LBT myself.
I do not reload, so I am a factory guy. I have had good luck with Hornady in the past, so I figured they might be worth a shot.

The 250gr is the Monoflex aka GMX with a rubber tip. Weight retention should be high and it should have very good penetration.

As a reloader I'm a 300gr Speer or 350gr Hornady FP shooter.
If I were restricted to factory loads it would be the Federal Fusion 300, Blue box 300 or the 350 Trophy Bonded for real tough stuff.

OK, well, if it's a monometal, it'll hold together.

Thanks for that info.
Going to bring the most out of the 45-70 reloading, and keep the most in your wallet. Though I am not sure if you really need to, or want to load to full snort. 45-70 is not a super expensive round, but it is a bigger round.

Not for everyone, but I think anyone who shoots much, should consider reloading, do the math. I realize many people are to busy. For me it is a nerdy hubby.

Whatever floats your boat. 😉
I have had excellent luck with the hornady ftx on deer. Usually engaged them at 175 yards give or take. I think it is all the ftx not the gilded GMX. Very happy with the results. I have some photos of carcasses but do not know how to post I could email them if some one wants to PM me.
