I've had this long tang Winchester for some time. Decided to add a Miroku Browning 71 to the stable. Just got it in today. Fit and finish is awesome. Feels like the old ones. My only gripe....why in the world did Browning not make these guns with LONG TANGS????? They had the opportunity as they were starting from scratch. The long tang feels SOOOOOOO much better to me!

I picked up a Browning Carbine four or five years ago and have never noticed the short tang being an issue. I started by pursuing a Winchester and found the Browning, while obviously a lot less money, to be better assembled, fit, finish, etc. Mine shoots extremely well too. They are a bargain IMO.
Agree, quality appears to be superb. Same with the 1886, although I like the Winchester version with the short mag tube and the non perch belly stock.

Pharmvet..

Turn the pic so its rigjt side up and study the comb nose on those stocks.

There is no law that prevents the Browning buttstock from being reshaped so that the comb nose and flutes are brought back the same dstance from the rear of the action as the pre war Winchester long tang stocks.

That adjustment along fitting a recoil pad to your LOP and finishing the wood in a nice oil varnish would really.bring the Browning up to the level of a true classic.
