Alaska Bullet Works has a very good reputation for producing tough deep penetrating high weight retaining bullets. They make some flat nosed bullets with heavy jackets for lever gun rifles with tubular magazines. The 250 grain Super Bonded bullets in .35 caliber start with a .025 jacket on the nose and taper to a .050 jacket at the base. From everything I have heard this is a good big critter bullet for woods hunting and performs well on moose. I bet it does!

I talked to them again the other day and asked them to consider a 220 grain bullet with the same jacket as the 250 grain bullet. The .356 Win. case is not very big, but maybe I could squeeze 2,350 fps mv out of my 20" barrel with that bullet. That would give me a 200 yard moose rifle and load that would also work as a close range big bear rifle. If any of you use the .356 Win. and are interested in a 220 grain bonded bullet then please give Alaska Bullet works in Juneau a call at 907-789-3834. If he hears from enough shooters it may motivate him.

They are easy to deal with and good folks. He just said please send me the money after you get the bullets. Ya don't hear that very often.

That's what I hear from another guy frank500. If I was running a 35-348 I would want 250 grains. But with the little .356 case I keep thinking 220 grains better all around bullet. I picked up a big bunch of 220 grain Speer FP when they were on sale with a rebate and free shipping. What rifle was your 35-348 on?

It was a second year 71. Restocked and made into s full magazine. Quite nicely done by an unknown craftsman. Also had a 450AK that matched the 35. Always wanted a 50 of some kind so I built the prototypes and tested the 500 S&W model 89s.

loaded their 450 grain FMJ to 2150 fps in my Miroku 1886 45-90 and took Cape buffs and knocked down an ele with it. It took 450 grain NF and Punch bullets to punch through the ele head though.
Also rolled a running Texas bison with it with a shot through both shoulders.

IMHO- good bullets!

AK Bullet Works makes first rate bonded core bullets. I have used them in the 348 Ack Imp and a 450 Fuller pre---war Model 71. The Fuller has
a reduced shoulder angle for smooth feeding. The 450 Fuller cartridges will feed and shoot in the other 450 AK I have-also a 1930s M-71.
I have used ABW and Hawk-400 gr FPs. They work well on moose and bear.
I have owned a 50 Alaskan-but its accuracy did not measure up, so I returned to carrying the 450s. The advantage is fast handling-fast repeat shots.
The 35-348 might have made sense years back-but now Woodleigh, Swift, Hawk-AKBW all make tough bullets in .348, so the manufacturers
have gotten better with their bullets. A 348 Ackley will equal a 35 Whelen now with these tough bonded core bullets.
