I want to use 41 mag powder coated bullets. I'm thinking 12 - 15 grains of Unique with a patch of kleenex tamped down on the powder. Anyone have any experience? I want to shoot these at the indoor range during the cold weather without blowing a hole in the backstop.

Lyman #41 (from the '50s, I think) shows only one bullet, the popular 290 grain lead grain #412263 and 16 grains Unique for a muzzle velocity of 1460. I don't know what weight bullet you're using, but in comparison with the book load, yours would likely be a decent load, though maybe a little light if you start at 12 grains. I've been shooting .405 with cast bullets for some time, but I've never used Unique. As for a tissue and Unique, I'd try it with and without. You may not need the tissue. I'd go with what's most accurate. Good luck-

Leave the tissue out. You stand a chance of ringing your chamber. Unique doesn’t need a filler. “Tamped down” is more like a wad, not a filler. Fillers are “fluffy”.

I used Hornady .41 mag pistol bullets just to try them and it worked well with 5744 up to 2100 fps. Never plinked much though, as I used the rifle for hunting.

I also used 41 Mag bullets with AA5744 and found them to be very accurate. Pain in the backside to seat those short little 210 grain JHP bullets. Also tried some Blue Dot and Unique as well. Fun to shoot out of my Ruger #1.

Cast bullets 292 grains I loaded with 25 gr of AA5744 and they would hold very true.

I'm looking for data, AA5744 with a 210 grain Hornady XTP. can you share the source?

Start load 38 grains (approx 1950 to2050 fps)
Max load 42 grains (approx 2300-2400 fps)
