wondering if a 32-40 may make a cowboy gun?

The 32/40 originated (Ballard) as a 40 rod target rifle (220 yds). so it is certainly accurate enough if you have a rifle that still has enough rifling left in the barrel to be accurate.
If nothing else you will be a little original.

I had an original Winchester model 1894 made in 1895 in that caliber. It was kind of a pain to load at first but was accurate and fun to shoot. Got a Trapdoor Springfield a few years later and traded the 94 off. Regret that one still.

The .32-40 in a singlel shot or lever gun could ONLY be used in Long Range Side matches only!

Cowboy Action "Main Match" rifles are chambered in "pistol" calibers, those being .32-20, .32 H&R, .38 Spl/.357 Mag (loaded light), .38-40, .44-40, .44 S&W Spl./.44 Mag (again, loaded light) and .45 Colt.
