Been out of the market for awhile. I have an opportunity to purchase a Marlin 39AS in good condition. Not a big fan of the cross bolt safety but love those levers. What is a “fair” value of such rifle. I know values had gone crazy but have leveled off recently. GB is all over the place. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks Mark

Ilikguns: I wish "I" could be more help - I can only add this.
This past Saturday (12/10) I bought a mint condition Marlin 39 Golden-AS for $625.00 cash (no sales tax in Montana). It came with a correctly mounted Leupold 4x Rimfire Special scope.
The gun appears to be in unfired condition with only tiny blemishes in the checkered wood that I am certain came about due to careless handling of the estate auction attendees that day.
I am contemplating selling this set-up for a minimum of $1,050.00.
The gloss finished minty Leupold 4 power Rimfire Special scope I value to be right at $200.00 to $225.00 - these gloss finished Leupolds are commanding high prices these days.
So I value my Marlin 39 Golden-AS with cross-bolt safety at $825.00 minimum.
This relayed to you after "I" could NOT ascertain if all Marlin 39 AS's (like yours) are "Golden AS's" (like mine) or not (referring to my "Marlin Firearms" book by Brophy).
Wish I could be more help. But when it comes to Marlin 39's in excellent condition I buy now and seek out "fair market value" later!
YMMV.
Best of luck to you with whichever you decide to do.
Hold into the wind

Thanks guys for your input. Hard to believe these little levers have increased in value that much over the years. Like so many of other firearms I wish I would have bought several as a young man.
