I recently purchased a used 39AS(like new and at a great price). My question is I want to add a reciever sight and am looking for advice. I have a marlin 1894s in .44 mag. with a Lyman 66. Any input?

That's what I have on mine. Works fine. Velocitor ammo puts five under an inch @ 50 yds. RWS Sub Sonics do about 5/8ths @ 50 yds. E

I have a 39AS I also bought used but it looks new. I have not been able to get good groups out of the Winchester, Remington or Federal bulk boxes of HP ammo. I just bought an array of CCI stuff to see how it will do but didn't get out this weekend. How does your 39AS do with Winchester, Remington or Federal?

I was at the range this morning to try groups with some Aguila 60gr Sub sonic sniper. The stuff is dirty, but I was getting decent groups with my 50's vintage 39A and my 7000T. SW

Mine shoots CCI HP and Winchester PP into an inch to an inch and a quater @ 50 yds. I haven't tried either Federal or Remington in it.

Twenty-two's seem to be individuals. Some shoot with certain brands and even lots of ammo and some don't. Mine won't do better than 2.5 inches @ 50 yds. with CCI Stingers. I suggest you try some of the better quality stuff and see what it likes. E

I have a 39as that was bought used with a Williams 5D receiver sight attached. I really like , but would have put a different sight on it. The 5D is good but adjustments require loosening set screws then tightening them back after adjustments. Not very handy in the field. I'm looking to replace it. I don't have any experience with the sight you mentioned. Just makes sure it will do what you want it to do.

I can recommend a Williams FP (Fool Proof) sight. I've had one on my model 39AS for 16 years. I recently retired this rifle as I have successfully wore it out. When it started malfunctioning, I figured no big deal, I'm a gunsmith, I can fix it.

I got under the hood and saw that almost every part and the two halves of the receiver had major wear to the point that fixing the gun would exceed the value.

No big deal, I'll get another one...I'm kida proud of the fact that I actually wore out a model 39...Not something everyone can say.

I have a Williams on my 9422M and love it. It isn't easily adjustable, but I don't mess with the sights when I'm hunting so that's not a problem for me. When I sighted it in, I fired a group, adjusted once, and fired another. That was right on, so I fired enough more to be sure and quit adjusting it.

Now I do have click-adjustable sights on my old Savage target rifle, and they're probably better, but the Williams is great value for the money.

When I put the peep sight on the Winchester, I also added a front sight to match, with a white stripe for visibility. Stands out great against dark objects like crows, squirrels, leaf wads that look like squirrels, etc.

I have two Marlin rimfire's and two 1894 Marlin centerfires with Lyman 66LA receiver sights on them.

These are the older "all steel Lyman 66LA's." The newer 66LA's have one part steel and one part aluminum.

Probably because of long association, But, I prefer the Lyman receiver sight to any other.

In tang sights, I prefer Marbles of the others, because the Marbles tang sight comes with a windage base.

The Williams Fool Proof is a nice sight that does an excellent job. I have one on my 39A and it's well, uh, "fool proof!"
