A couple weeks ago in the name of science I decided to see how many times a broncoII would roll if I fell asleep at the wheel <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Needless to say it is capable of rolling 4 times.

However during the rollover one of the 2 rifles that were laying in cases behind the back seat on the floor got thrown through the side rear window. The truck finished its roll by landing on the roof, sadly it was ontop of the rifle. After the wrecker came and took away the truck I started picking up things in the ditch and thats when I noticed the case in the ditch.

Taking it outta the case my heart sank, it was my 94/22. However upon inspection the only thing that was wrong with the gun besides one new scratch was that the rear sight was bent totally sideways.

So where can I get a replacement sight? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Looks like a good excuse to put a peep sight on the 94-22.
Willams makes a great one that clamps on the grooved reciver, and don't have to be drilled & tapped.

www.brownells.com has a wide variety of both open rear sights such as the one currently on the rifle (without the bend of course!), and aperture sights. Give them a look, they're great folks to deal with.

Look at oneraggedhole.com too. They make a peep for the 9422 (and other guns) that goes right where the old rear sight bit the dust.

One Ragged Hole claims that all you have to do is remove the small screws on the rear sight , and "drop" the new one in. I see no screws on my 9422M rear sight. Any info. would help.

Ric, the web site shows dovetail sights for guns, like the 9422, that have dovetailed rear sights. It shows screw-in sights for guns, like the Ruger 2245, that have the rear sights screwed to them.

I haven't tried them yet, but it appears they are designed for use on a limited number of specific models, and are made to fit those models in a "bolt-on" fashion. If your present rear sight is dovetailed, the ORH sight will be also.

Look at the web site, click on Winchester in the rifles column, and see if that doesn't look like what I described.

Not to be a wet blanket, however, isn't the "aperture" to far from your eye to actually function as a proper aperture sight does? Won't it cover even more of the target than an open rear sight set-up does? That's the beauty of a "peep sight" as mounted on the receiver or tang, the rear aperture fades away when the firearm is shouldered and the sight viewed, and, the target isn't obscured as with a regular open rear sight. This sight IMHO seems to offer the worst of both worlds? Does anyone have actual experience with it, or given it some serious thought?

Not a new idea, actually. Winchester offered it on the Model 67 or some such back in the 1930's. Haven't tried it myself, because I had a Williams sight on my 9422 before I knew about oneraggedhole.

Muzzleloaderman, there's only one way to find out if you like it on yours. Unlike the d&t approach, you can always take it off if you don't like it.

Tell you what: I still have the 9422 rear sight I took off mine around here somewhere. You buy the one ragged hole, give us all a report, and if you don't like it you can send it to me and I'll send you my factory open sight.

Just think, this could be your start to a career as a gunwriter.

Brownell's lists the original Winchester 9422 rear sight as their part number 901-531-041. The January 2005 issue of Rifle Magazine has an article by Brian Pearce about 9422s followed by a writeup of the One Ragged Hole sight, which he liked.
