A buddy called and put me on the trail of a 39A at a local pawn shop.
It's not perfect with some light rust freckles on the barrel exterior but the bore is shiny and bright.
The wood is pretty plain but undamaged.
The action is smooth as butter and the butt plate and grip cap are intact.
I'm guessing it was hunted a fair bit but not abused so I brought it home for $150. It dates to 1957.

I ran a patch through it and went out to the range to work on a swinger target before it got dark outside, this rifle is a hoot to shoot!

I'll give it some love and attention tonight and I'll bring more ammo next time out.

This is a sweet shooter! It's nice to get a find like this once in a while in a pawn shop. It gives the rest of us a reason to keep looking.

Colodog: I re-read your post and answered my own question to you - year of manufacture being 1957!
That is an OUTSTANDING buy at $150.00.
Good for you.
I have a similar style/vintage (wide forearm etc.) Rifle - they are indeed just plain fun to shoot and Hunt with.
Enjoy.
Hold into the wind
